    Castle shuttle bus

    by himalia11 Updated Jul 13, 2011

If you don't want to walk up from the car park to the castle, you can take the bus shuttle. They usually wait at the car park, and to go down there's a bell at the bus station next to the entry. We never had to wait long.
The bus goes daily from mid of March to end of October, and in winter only on week-ends, public holidays and school holidays. For only one trip (up or down) it costs 1,90 € (adults)/ 0,90 € (children), and for the return trip 2,90 (adults) / 1,45 € (children). We managed to get in the bus with a baby carriage and a children's wheelchair, but it was pretty narrow; disabled people can also ask to drive up directly.

On A 81 (Stuttgart–Singen), exit Empfingen, on B463 in direction Balingen, then on B 27 in direction Hechingen (in Hechingen, Burg Hohenzollern signposts give you the direction) or via B 27 (Stuttgart–Tübingen-Hechingen-Balingen), exit Burg Hohenzollern. The road leads through the forest directly to the parking lot of the Castle. A sufficient number of parking places is available for the buses.

The increasingly steep getting walking path (approx. 30 minutes) leads to the Castle entrance, the Eagle’s Gate. Here you find the cashier booth.

The Castle can be reached more comfortably by taking the shuttle bus (station is opposite the parking lot).
During summer season (16 March - 31 October) the shuttle bus commutes regularly between 9:00 and 18:30 hrs.

    Parking Fees
    Car: € 2.00 per day
Caravan: € 2.00 per day incl. 1 night
    Motorcycle: € 1.00 per day
    Coach: Free

    Getting To Castle Hohenzollern

by Ujamaflip Written Nov 5, 2004

    Castle Hohenzollern

Castle Hohenzollern is about 65Km south of Stuttgart, by the town of Hechingen. The castle can easily be seen on top of Burg Hohenzollern from a great distance, well before the signs for the castle begin. The B27 leads from Stuttgart to Hechingen, and near the town follow the signs to the caste.

Once at the castle, parking is 2Eur. You can ascend the road up to the castle a fair way, but even from the highest car park it is a fairly steep walk up to the castle. If you don`t feel sporty or fit enough to make the ascent by foot, you can take a shuttle bus up to the castle entrance. The shuttle is 1.55Eur per adult, or 2.55Eur return.
