In 1998 a terrible storm "Lothar" hit this area and many of the woods in the Black Forest were devastated.
The BUND (German Environmental Group) selected a couple of areas to do some replanting of trees and near Ettlingen is one of the sites. The "Zukunftswald 2000" is sponsored by people who each chaperoned - and planted - one tree.
We did get one tree as a present when we got married, so we return every once in awhile to have a look at "our" tree!!!

Here and there you can find little signs on the old houses pointing in the direction of the closest abbey or church. They are old signs usually with the word "hic" (Latin for "here") written next to it!

Ettlingen actually is a little off the beaten path itself: although only 15 minutes south of Karlsruhe, not too many people find their way here. For a short relaxing sightseeing tour do consider this small town and I am sure you will enjoy it just as I do or our guests do!
