Favorite thing: Get to the top of the Schauinsland mountain. At 1284 metres, this is one of the highest peaks in the Black Forest. There is a viewing tower at the top and when you have climbed up there you deserve a bit of Black Forest gateau or a beer at the café by the cable car station afterwards. There is also a silver-mining museum and several paths around the peak, some which give you a view across to the Alps if the weather conditions are perfect. More at http://www.schauinsland.com/
Fondest memory: Seing the Alps, the French Vosges mountains and then the sunset and the gorgeous mountain colours from the top of Schauinsland.

Favorite thing: Most important: statistically it´s the warmest place in Germany, and even when you take a look at the weather forcasts it´s almost the spot on the map where the temperature are higher than anywhere esle in Germany
Fondest memory: Downtown is great for a stroll. They´ve got those very little 'canals' running beside you when you walk your way through the city center.
The surrounding area is very scenic as well as they´ve got the black forest.
Cathedral of our Beloved Lady...
Favorite thing: Cathedral of our Beloved Lady - 'Münster Unserer Lieben Frau'. Work began around 1200 on the construction of a Cathedral on the site of an old parish church from the 12th century. In 1220, the plans were revised and construction continued in the Modern Gothic style, which at that time had reached its zenith in France. The west tower - the 'most beautiful tower of Christianity'- was finished in 1330. It is likely that the new building of the Late Gothic chancel was designed by the cathedral master workman Johannes von Gmünd. The cornerstone was laid in 1354. The chancel was not fully finished until 1513, due to political and economic problems in the city and poor management. The Cathedral achieved its present form at the beginning of the 16th century. However, it has been almost constantly under construction or renovation. Because of high levels of air pollution, the ongoing efforts to maintain the Cathedral are a race against time.

Favorite thing: Taste the ice-cream! it is excellent!I especially liked the spagetti-ice which is basically ice-cream that is made to look like spagetti! There are loads of ice-cream bars around, os you'll certainly be able to get one
Fondest memory: I have a German penfriend, and i was visiting, so that's my fondest memory. It was strange seeing the trams in the middle of the road though!
You should take your Koenig...
Favorite thing: You should take your Koenig Ludwigs Fruehstueck at Schlosscafe, with a very nice view over the city. You shouldn't miss an excursion to Schauinsland by lift or by car, where you can realize how wonderfull the Black Forest is. Visit the cathedral 'Muenster' and don't hesitate to take the stares to the top of the bell-tower. I was 4 years there as a student and I never did it. Now I regret that.
Fondest memory: I will never forget the early Satturday mornings when we were visiting the market in front of the Cathedral after clubbing, waiting for the first Saucages to be grilled.

Favorite thing: Go to downtown. Enjoy the atmosphere on the main shopping street (Kaiser-Joseph-Str.) with it's small rivers ('Bächle') and the street artists. Go to the Münster-Platz where you can visit the old cathetral. Enjoy the original sausages that you can get in front of the cathetral
Fondest memory: When I'm away from Freiburg I miss most the mixture of small city and nature. Everywhere in the city are small parks and greens. From the downtown you can go directly to the mountains. Within 5 minutes you stay in the blackforest (by foot!)
Favorite thing: The city garden isn't actually very big but from there the gondola starts up the hill to the Schlossrestaurant (see restaurant tip). The cabins are very small but it's good fun.
one building more beautiful than the other....
Favorite thing: all around the Münsterplatz and in seeveral more streets around you find one old building next to the other, all in great conditions. Amazing view, amazing atmosphere there!!
Favorite thing: this is one of the two fountains on the Münsterplatz. Unfortunately I can´t give any further info about them so far.
Freiburg - Münzgasse
Favorite thing: I´m not from Freiburg, maybe there are a lot of other better places, but I saw this street and some others around as part of the beautiful evening street life in Freiburg.
Shopping in Freiburg
Favorite thing: Freiburg is a great place to shop. lots of people from surrounded towns travel to Freiburg to purchase this and that. But I figured out that it is quite expensive.
Favorite thing: Strolling through the extremly narrow streets is nothing for claustrophobic people. Sometimes they can be really narrow.
