Good cocktails, many beverages you can choose for good prices - but it has nothing to do with South America, it's only in the name :-) They haven't many dishes on their cards, but whatever you choose will be good! I tried a Thai Soup with red curry, coconut milk, chicken and chillies and it was really hot and tasty (EUR 2,50) and another time a wonderful fresh salad (big!!!) with baked french cheese (EUR 6,50) - delicious! There's every day one cocktail the "Special Offer" for prices between EUR 3 - 5,50.

...one more nice bar with nice interior. Every monday it's Happy Hour from 8 pm until 9 pm (Cocktails are ok there, try the Mojito!) and also the monday is Burger-Day at Maria's - they serve fresh made, delicious burgers, really big (even too much for one person!) with country potatoes or chips and salad for EUR 3,90!!!

It's over 20 years old and since then students and also business people go there for eating and drinking....it's cosy inside, full of old posters and pictures....prices are ok and at Schlappen the waitresses are really fast!!! A rnice place to go for a beer and the even toilets are worth a visit - especially the men's toilets where water is running down the walls in an artistic style!

...a really nice bar (one more meeting point for students) where also the local beer from Cologne - Koelsch - is served, for EUR 1,50 the glass, really cheap! Food and music are ok, but don't miss to try the breakfast there! It's every day, but the best choices you can make on sundays (until 6 pm). They serve everything you can imagine (including fish and seafood), when you choose the breakfast called "Europa" - for only EUR 8,00 incl. coffee and fresh orange juice. They offer ca. 15 different sorts of coffee from all good coffee regions and in countless ways of preparation...worth a visit! But also here the waiters aren't too fast...

...not only at night this is the meeting point of all students - prices are really good, under average (and the average of Freiburg is low!) and you can eat some smaller plates there which are more than ok, and drink everything you like to - except of good wine :-)

Irish Pub in the Kornhaus: Guiness & Kilkenny's with good music

Annalisa-Lucia 25 reviews

In the "Kornhaus" at Muensterplatz there are several pubs and dancing bars located - i experienced only the Irish Pub in it, which is really a nice one, it's big and cosy, prices are a bit over Freiburg's average, but the bevarages are ok...only the waitresses are a bit too slow...but they play good rock and blues music and at the weekends it's live music from 9:30 pm on...

A rustical traditional pub in Freiburg where you can get fresh brewed Freiburger beer, the "Martinsbr?u". They have 3 differnet ones, the "normal one, a dark one and a third one made from an english recipe as they told us.

Freiburg Municipal Theatre: Theatre, Opera, Ballett, Musicals and more

Freiburg Municipal Theatre

Freiburg Municipal Theater (Stadttheater in German) is the cities largest theatre having four attractive performance areas:

The main "large house" offers around 1000 seats, then the modern "Kurbel" theatre (a cinema until the 1990'es), the small "Kamera (also part of the former cinema) and as guest stage "Theatercaf?". There's also the Jackson-Pollock-Bar, where you can meet fans, artists and night owls after a play.

In general Freiburg Municipal Theater is quite modern, because the new boss is young and trying to attract new (younger) people to the world of theatre, opera and ballett. Reactions are mixed, but what I saw so far is quite promising. But of course everybody has his own taste. Specialties are very modern versions of "classical" plays. I was recently impressed by Richard III (Shakespeare) and Nora (Ibsen). Next up is Carm?n!

The theatre was built 1910 by Heinrich Seeling, but competely renovated in year 2000. Some people say Freiburg Municipal Theater doesn't have much flair, but hey I go there to watch plays. And you can't expect another Scala in a medium sized German town.

Freiburg Municipal Theatre also offers many special events. Most famous perhaps the International Theatre Festival (see webpage below for details) in summer, where marketplace is sometimes turned into a big performance area.

There's also a "theatre day" once a month, when ticket prices are reduced significantly. Students pay (as long there are tickets available) 7 ?.

Often opera's and musicals are performed in "native" language; meaning Italian operas are sung in Italian with German subtitles.

Dress Code: Well, I'd say you can go there the way you want to go. Of course you will find people with very expensive clothes, but you will also find students who are dressed in every day style. Freiburg is an own town, so nobody cares about your clothing style here.

Wearing jeans while watching Fidelio? Beethoven doesn't care, nor do we ...

Jackson-Pollock-Bar: Tuesday Salsa Party

Stadttheater (theatre)

I love to dance Merengue, Bachata or Salsa or other latin dances so I´m always searching for possiblities whereever I go. I found a Salsa Party every tuesday in the Jackson-Pollack Bar just next to the Stadttheater. So the unfortunately a bit moving photo shows the "Stadttheater" building.
The party was ok, although the ambience was quite cold, besides only a few real latino dancer and too much "dancing school" dancers.....
