I had dinner and some wonderful German beer at the Lowenbrau on the Alt Stadt Hauptstrasse just prior to my drinks and conversation with the Merck guys at the Weisser Boch. This was a wonderful little bar and the owner was also good natured about my horrible grammar. His English was worse than my German though, but he was nevertheless very talkative. I had a good opportunity to practice my language with him, and their food was fabulous.
The cigarette smoke though, was hard for me to get used to. All Europeans smoke, and it's something a non smoker just has to accept while in Europe.
