Cuckoo clocks are very popular in this region of Germany. Kathe Wohlfahrt has a wonderful choice of cuckoos to choose from. One entire room of the store is dedicated to these whimsical clocks. Fortunately the times are all set differently so they don't all go off at the same time.
What to pay: These are pretty pricey little devils, ranging in price from under one hundred euros to several hundred euros

IT WAS IN 1978 (WHEN I REMEMBER CORRECTLY) THAT HEIDELBERG'S HAUPTSTRASSE was turned into a pedestrian zone and..one of the most attractive shopping miles in Europe!
Today it is a PARADISE to stroll through markets, shops and boutiques.
International Brand names include all trade marks you can think of...
But don't forget the antique shops and avantgarde style fashion boutiques, modern designer jewellery and fine old porcelain, traditional and contemporary artefacts...
Loaded you will have to go back to your hotel....
What to buy: That depends on p and t......purse and taste....but it is a paradise so.....l'embarras du choix will make it difficult for you.......
What to pay: hèhè, of course you yourself know best what to spend.....

Here the sweetest seducers are made, hand-made....
A real must to visit GUNDEL in the very heart of the ALTSTADT....
It is an excellent Bakery, Konditorei and Caf?
You can sit here and have a taste while letting your eyes dwell on the rows and rows of attractively wrapped SWEET CHOCOLATES......after that.....buy.
What to buy: just pay for what you bought, what else....
What to pay: How thick is your purse and how easy are you being seduced??
Are you stronger than TEMPTATION ITSELF??

There are over 150 types of absinth in this shop. It's on a side street off of the main marketplatz. Prices range from cheap to very expensive. The sell the spoons, and other paraphanalia including mixed absinth drinks.
What to buy: there are a few head shops, hello..college town...good food, clothing stores looked a little expensive, bakeries, ect.
What to pay: prices are reasonable overall.

I LOVE Christmas and I'm like a child when it comes to Christmas decorations. Käthe Wohlfahrt is a shop that sells ONLY christmas decorations and most of them are traditionally german (or so I've been told) wooden decorations.
What to buy: Buy the traditional Christmas pyramid! I have one and it's appreciated by almost everyone who sees it. It's a memory from Heidelberg!
What to pay: If you're anything like me you could spend a never ending amount of money here!

In Heidelberg I have had many opportunities to have a look at souvenirs from Germany. I was shocked what the image of Germany must be with tourist when all they sell is coockoo clocks, beer mugs and Bavarian style dressed Teddybears.
What to buy: Maybe a postcard (watch out it's not one of the Rhine or Neuschwanstein castle when sending one from Heidelberg though). The rest is just ugly trash!
What to pay: Every Euro spent is too much if you ask me!
