The restaurant Litfass is a rustic local place where you either sit at tables or stand/sit at the bar. We went there at the VT meeting for our dinner and it was packed and more and more people came and it became quite loud in the end. In summer you can sit outside too.
In December 2011 a bunch of VTers came here again in search of a place for drinks at around 10.30 pm and we stayed till about 1 am. Service was friendly.
Favorite Dish: The food portions were huge and yummy. I opted for a Cordon Bleu with French fries and gravy.
The Litfass is a popular meeting place . There is a beer garden which is located on the square behind the small church, and is therefore centrally located in the middle of the city.. On the menu there are many specialities of the region including Maultaschensalat which is a dish of spinach filled pasta with Elmental cheese. When cooked it seemed to be cooked with egg beaten into it. There is also an excellent range of beer too.
Prices are good and are all in the region of 7 Euro per meal.
Favorite Dish: Maultaschensalat
After we had tasted enough Glühwein we went to the "Litfass" (a "Litfass-Säule" is an advertising column). They have various dishes, mainly regional (but also something like Gyros), which was really good with moderate prices - and big portions, I couldn't finish it! It only was pretty loud there... but we had fun anyway!
There's a second "Litfass" next to it, which rather is for smokers. The one we went to was directly at the corner and here smoking is prohibited.
This centrally located restaurant is one of my favorites. Especially in summertime it’'s nice to sit in their beer garden in front of the building on the small square.
