Stuttgart Flights

Parking around the airport is very expensive and a huge major rip-off!!! There parking calculator is worthless and they pretty much tell you on the site that they are taking no responisibility for th information. We just were charged 50€ for 2 days and 9 hours in the PO parking garage. This is the furthest away and is not covered. Don't park at the airport. The parking site also states that the Movenpick parking lot has a fee of 38 euro for a week. Hello! NOT. We were charged 80 something for 4 days.

Stuttgart is an international airport located approximately 8 miles south of the city centre of Stuttgart. Cheapest way to get into the city and to reach the airport is the "S-Bahn", which takes about 30 minutes from the city and is about 3 EUR.

Stuttgart's airport is actually outside the city although it is easy to get it by S-Bahn (the station is just under the airport building and going upstairs you enter to the city airport). There are a lot local and international flights from the Stuttgart airport by different aircraft including low-cost companies such as Germania and GermanWings. Another interesting thing with the airport is it is very popular place for local people to have a walking near by looking at landing and taking off planes.

We booked a special fares to Stuttgart by British Airways special (european destination) fares. Likewise, if you book early in advance at least (3mths) fare from £57 excludind tax can be obtain.

At least refreshment is served on-board.

Getting to Stuttgart from Manchester was easy-peasy.

The airport is served by an efficient local S-Bahn train service leaving from Terminal 1 that takes about half an hour to reach Stuttgart city centre. A 1-way ticket costs EUR 2.70.

Before you leave the airport visit its tourist info office for maps and advice, plus a tourist travel card that includes your travel in the area for 72 hours.

Stuttgart's airport is located about 20min. outside the city, directly on the Autobahn A8 Stuttgart - Munich. The metro (S-Bahn) drives into the the city center every 30 minutes.
The airport is a lot smaller than Frankfurt and most international flights arrive and depart in Terminal 1 where the train station is also located. By the way this terminal has a great architecture and the design has won several architectural design prizes.

Stuttgart has become the southern German hub for 2 Budget Airlines in 2003, now we can fly to destinations all over Europe at prices starting at 19 Euro one way.

If you have free time between flights, the Albatros Flight museum is worth a visit, you can see rare old planes like a JU 52.

You can even have a great dinner directly in the airport, the restaurant "Top Air" is the only airport restaurant in Germany rated with a star by Michelin.

The Stuttgart international airport (SGT) may be small compared to Frankfurt's, but it is served by most major domestic and international airlines. It's also conveniently close to the city (13km/8mi). A 30-minute train ride will take you right downtown. Frequent train service connects Stuttgart to all major German and many international cities, as well as to smaller, regional destinations. Buses are a cheaper if slower option, and if you're daring enough to try out the Autobahn, two major routes pass the city.

Flybe, a regular scheduled airline , fly direct from Birmingham (BHX) to Stuttgart, ideal for us - this airport is only a 40 minute drive. Flying time around 1 hour 20.
