Parks and Gardens, Stuttgart
I am sorry, but the green U is spoiled. For the construction of the S21 they made a big mess and removed a part of the park. You can't cross the bridge from Oberer Schlossgarten near the theatre to Mittlerer Schlossgarten, I am not sure how, but you have to walk near the Willy-Brandt-Str. to the next alive park. It's a pity. Sorry
Almost 20% of the Stuttgart territory is under landscape protection. The unique attraction of the public parks and relaxation facilities which cover a surface of 5.6 square kilometers is the large "green U". With the help of several garden shows, this u shaped facility was begun and has been systematically extended. For the International Garden Exhibition "IGA Stuttgart Expo 93", Baden-Wuerttemberg's first world exhibition, a further piece of valuable nature was brought back to the big city.
Behind the theater is a beautiful little park in the shadow of the north wing of the Neues Schloss. From here you can cut through to Schlossplatz, past the Kunstegaude (House of Art), to view the Schlossplatz itself, and the Jubilaeumssaule. Also fronting onto the upper palace gardens are the State Theatre and opera house.
At the beginning of the "Untere Schlossgarten" there are two huge marble statues of people repressing two horses. I don't know why it's set there, but the work is quite nice and stunning at a way. Maybe it's because they are quite huge!
The "Untere Schlossgarten" is a long green with a long park way under huge trees. It's not so crowded as the other parks and if you follow it until the end you end up on the river Neckar. I have done it though, it was too far I thought...
There is a soccer field and a playground too I think.
The middle garden is also nice for a break. There are two lovely beergardens for example. If you like to play chess or Boule there is a big garden chess square in the middle of the park and two lanes for throwing the bowls.
How come that there are mostly older men playing chess here?
In fact there are three gardens that belong to the Schlossgarten behind the new castle. The first one is called Oberer Schloßgarten and it's a great place to take a break in summer. Next to a huge green there is a fountain in a huge basin. You have a nice view on the castle and on the Stuttgarter Staatstheater, which is well known for concerts and theater of course.
Far away the TV tower is sending its signals from the hill...
Small lake and church in Feuersee. It's very central. Research tells me it was orginally a water resevoir outside city limits back in the 1700s. Its now a small city park in the city centre. The church you see in the pic is called Johanneskirche
Eating cherries from a tree!! Maybe this activity means nothing for those who live in the North Hemisphere, but for those from the South as me, it meant a lot. It was the first time I saw a cherry tree in my life, and eating a fresh cherry was so nice!!!
Just a nice place to stay and have a rest in the garden of the castle. From there you also can hike through green places until Killesberg.
Therer are a lot of sculptures in the streets and parks of Stuttgart. This one is in the "Obere Schlossgarten" right behing the castle.
the pond made me feel i wanna be a frog and jump from leaf to leaf...come on frog prince, come and kiss me and we'll jump happily ever after!!!
Ohhhhh...the parks!! They are so lovely!! It was not spring anymore but they were so full of colorful flowers!!! So clean!! So nice!!
Here I am in a park which belongs to the University of Stuttgart, in Plieningen. All plants are catalogued and some rare trees can be seen there. I could see even a banana tree!!!
