Monk Gargoyle by ATXtraveler Most people are able to take in the beauty of Ulm's Cathedral from the ground, but this is only half the story. There are also two plateaus that you can acheive when you head to the tower. The first is the top story, and the second is making it all the way up to the top of the spire. Each time, you will get a better and better view of how much work was put into this cathedral. I enjoyed this position, where I was able to see the moss growing on this gargoyle :) Leave a Comment

Ulm Cathedral Sept. 11 Memorial by ATXtraveler Although if you head to Ulm today you will not be able to see this, I wanted to make sure it was memorialized. We were able to travel only 2 weeks after the tragedy of September 11th, and the sentiment around the world was that of thanks that Americans had already started travelling again. Everywhere we went, there were memorials to the tragedy, and Ulm Cathedral had one of the largest ones we had seen. There were balloons, paintings, and candles out in honor. Leave a Comment

Osama Sympathizers by ATXtraveler Not everyone in Ulm however believed that September 11th was a tragedy. If you look closer at some of the signs that were laid before the cathedral, you can see that this sign actually had Osama bin Laden sympathizers! It reads: Osama is Innocent! Show me the evidence! Donau is one of the most known Europians river. I admired its beauty in Ulm for the first time. It was difficult to realise, that this river could turn to an awful stream during flooding as it happened in 2002. Then in 2003 and later in 2005 Donau was quiet and peaceful!

One of the funniest and strangest museums I have seen up to date that I can think of is the Deutsches Brotmuseum, or the German Museum ofı Bread. There I saw things that, in one way or another, are related to the production of bread. Like models of mills, dishes used in bread baking and many others. Another class of items you can gaze at includes art works with bread either as the main subject or just represented somewhere. Paintings, graphic designs, advertisements and the like of them. Go to Salzstadelgasse, 10. The museumıs open from 10 AM till 5 PM on Tuesdays, and Thursday to Monday. Wednesdayıs opening hours are from 10 AM till 8:30 PM. Leave a Comment

by CliffClaven A few miles north of Ulm is the town of Giengen, where the world-famous Steiff teddybears are made. They have been making soft toys at the Steiff factory in Giengen for more than 120 years. In 1980, to celebrate the company's 100th anniversary, they opened the Steiff Museum. It's delightful for children and their parents. And guess what? There is no entrance fee!

St george fountain by Kathrin_E St George killing the dragon is depicted on a fountain in the little square behind the choir of the Münster church. The statue, originally from 1580, was substituted by a copy in the 19th century.

Dreifaltigkeitskirche seen from Münster steeple by Kathrin_E The Dreifaltigkeitskirche is actually the former church of the Dominican monastery, which was closed down when the reformation was introduced in 1531. A new church was built on the old foundations from 1617 to 1621, including the gothic choir. World War II destroyed the church. Only the facades and the steeple were rebuilt to keep the original outward appearance. The interior is entirely post-war, the building was turned into a parish and meeting centre. Location: Neue Straße
