ISN'T SMART PRETTY AND... SMART? :-)

I could see quite a lot such short cars as on my picture on streets of Berlin. Sign of shortage of parking places? Maybe.

Never mind, I liked them as much as I liked PT-cruisers in the USA. The car is called Smart and is produced by Swatch (yes, the Swiss company known as watch producer) but sold (and serviced) in Mercedes-Benz net. I think they are the world's shortest cars (only 2.5 m = 8 ft + almost 2 inches :-) - designated for 2 passangers only, no rear seats inside.

It's a pity they are as expensive as "normal", compact or even midsize cars for 4-5, at least in my country. I can see them in my hometown from time to time including new Smart roadster (amazing!) and Smart for four (add 1 PT Cruiser of my friend :-). They are going to sell these cars in the USA since 2006 :-).

    Parking meters with... antennas

    ANTENNA OF PARKING METER

Each parking meter in Berlin's district of Charlottenburg was equipped with quite high masts with... look at my picture... on the top.

At first moment I thought it was... a solar battery but hmm... Berlin was not the most sunny European city as I knew and why just by parking meters? Finally I found explanation written on the parkometer in German and English: Warning! Automat is protected by radio security system. So, it was antenna :-) I found the system smart but maybe expensive as well.

    On metro station

    TV ON METRO STATION

There were cameras on platforms of many/all metro (U-bahn) stations in Berlin. The image from the cameras was shown to everyone on TV monitors put on the platform. Did it make the place more safe? I am not sure. Probably yes.

Once I could see one medium-age guy dancing in the middle of a night on a platform there. He didn't look drunk, rather crazy or just different (???). People didn't pay any attention to him.

people say the trains are constantly inspected and that ticket collecters are always on the go. i bought a weeks ticket and no one checked me once - so if you wanna risk it......

the transports pretty good. but s bahn stations don´t always meet up with U bahn stations and sometimes its actually easier to walk!!! lots of attractions are situated pretty nearby each other

thats how the bus looks like

Do you want to check out some/many of the main sights of Berlin without paying for an expensive TouristTourBus where someone is talking to you from a tape? To get a first view on things and a feeling for the size and distance in Berlin: catch the BUS 100. This is a normal public transportation busline which covers much of the touristy area. So - take your "Lonley Planet" and hop on and off wherever you like.

There are various ways of moving around Berlin: by underground, bus, bike or on foot. You can also take one of these funny taxis. Don't they look cute?
