A piece of France in ... Berlin
In keeping up Berlins reputation to be a city with a keen sense of style,
Galeries Lafayette is another occasion for buying elegant, brand-name French designs, expensive perfumes, colognes, shoes, and accessories. There is even a French Library
where you can find French lecture, from Comic's to scientific works of art.
In addition and comparable with the "KaDeWe" this store is known for its fabulous basement floor, which features gourmet delights like exotic produce, imported wines, premium meats, and other “delicatessen”
The building itself is remarkable aswell and is attracting the outlook of the fanciest shopping center in Berlin. Block 207 – between Franzoesische Strasse and Morenstrasse
The architect used a lot of glass cone-shaped volumes for the façade AND the inner places
A friend of me told me that it was the last wish of the owner of this concern
to create and built another Galery like we know "Galeries Lafayette" in Paris
Friedrichstrasse is lively boulevard and a shopper paradise of Berlin where many boutiques, bars and pubs can be found. Among others there is Galeries Lafayette, huge and architecturaly very attractive moll which offers great sgopping oportunities. The inside of the building, with its round staircases, looks fascinating especially under the lights.
The store offers the latest fashions from cult designers such as Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Cardin, yet the design of the building, with its daring glass roof, is equally fashionable. The only problem is that sheets of glass occasionally crash down onto the pavement below!
Galeries Lafayette, located on busy shopping street Friedrichstrasse in Berlin downtown, is really sweet looking department store. Built with a lots of glass and steel, it sets the store apart from the rest of the department stores built in early 20th century.
The central opening is coated with glass walls, and as it curves like a cigar, you can see the people on the basement restaurant level eating while you are waiting her on the women's level.
Galeries Lafayette is first and foremost a fashion department store. Most of the levels are dedicated to garments for women, men and children; both classic and contemporary styles are available.
The basement has a selection of small restaurants and a delicatessen.
For the traveler that loves to shop, the Galeries Lafayette located next to the Gendarmenmarkt will make your day! Similar to the shopping center with the same name in Paris, the Galeries is full of name brand shops and is sure to please any one that is looking for that special bag, outfit, shoes, accessory, or anything else they may have their heart set on.
Located in Berlin Mitte, just south of Unter den Linden and just three blocks east of Wilhelmstrasse, the Galeries Lafayette is in the center of the traditional shopping district for Berlin. Although this area was seriously destroyed in the war and only partially rebuilt during the Cold War, the Galeries is now housed in a modern looking building and is in an upscale and vibrant part of town frequented by locals and visitors alike.
Galeries Lafayette in Berlin is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Closed on Sundays.
