    Berliner Unterwelten

The "Berliner Unterwelten" is a relatively new concept of guided tours, leading tourists into the underbelly of Berlin. These guided tours follow different theme-based itineraries (Cold War, WW 2 etc.) to underground destinations like deserted bunkers, flak towers, metro stations etc.

Berliner Unterwelten run 3 different tours underneath the streets of Berlin:
    1. Dark Worlds (a tour through a bunker from WWII)
    2. Flak Towers to Mounts of Debris (a devastated underground) - over 18yrs only although children over 14 yrs can go if accompanied.
    3. Subways, Bunkers and the Cold War

They are a non profit organisation and operate out of Gesundbrunnen U-Bahn.

We did the Dark Worlds tour 1 which is a tour of the Gesunbrunnen bunker, complete with personal and military objects, articles and possessions that have been found in various bunkers beneath Berlin. Our tour guide, Robin, was very informative but also extremely engaging. It was a most interesting tour, told from a neutral perspective, about general bunker life for the average Berlin citizen.

From phospheros rooms to ladies toilets, from standard military 2 condom issue to bombs, gas masks and diaries, from lack of oxygen in the bunkers, suicide and fear to child birth, children's games and the brewing of beer....

The ticket office is open from 10:30am. You cannot pre-book your tour but you can email the company with your questions and they will respond - they got back to me to let me know the times of their weekend day tours in English - 11am & 1pm over the weekends.

This is such a worth while tour and I cannot recommend it enough.

Photographs & filming is forbidden and you have to pay with cash - worth knowing in advance. Tours last 90 minutes.
