The Checkpoint Charlie Museum is one of the most visited museums in Berlin. It houses the history of the Berlin Wall and exhibits remains of the wall as well as all kind of memorabilia from the era.

    Checkpoint Charlie Sign

When you see a sign in both English and Russion, it is a clear reminder of the division of this city. While this sign is clearly tourist driven, it was a great reminder of the division of the city.

Check out this fella in the museum - maybe hiding from the Stasi? Have a look at the items of escape used by East Germans, including chairlifts, false passports, hot-air balloons, and even a minisub.

This was the guard station at the entrance to the American zone when Berlin was divided by the Berlin wall. Now it's a very touristic place, with plenty of souvenir stands.

Checkpoint Charlie is the former border crossing point between East and West Berlin. It was destroyed in 1990, a year after the fall of the Wall, and a copy was built in 2000 on the original spot.

    The Famous Checkpoint

A very touristic place but, anyway, a place to see if you go to Berlin. The museum, not far away from the checkpoint, is very interesting and tell the craziest stories of evasions.

Near the Checkpoint Charlie Museum there are exhibits that show some of the actual pieces of the Berlin wall. Each piece has some story to tell.

Checkpoint Charlie is at the south end of the Friedrichstrasse which was control post at the district border between center and cross mountain.

The sector boundary was opened up on 9 November 1989.

The Mauer Museum is really interesting. It tells the story of many persons who escaped or tried to escape from the DDR. It is impressive how creative their ideas were and what they risked for their freedom. It is a must-see in Berlin as it helps to understand the terrible history of this city.
