Set on 5 floors with eye-opening exhibits, not jsut to do with the war however. Was also an exhibition of world religions which was fascinating.
    P.s. excellent Mexican restaurant opposite!!

This is the museum of the history of the Berlin Wall, and of all courageous attempts to get over it. I advice you to visit it, it’s really a MUST.

    Checkpoint Charlie

After visiting the Checkpoint Charlie Museum we went to have a look at Checkpoint Charlie itself...the famous border crossing from East to West Berlin.

Checkpoint Charlie is at the south end of the Friedrichstrasse which was control post at the district border between center and cross mountain.

The sector boundary was opened up on 9 November 1989.

Looks a bit of an after thought these days, but you have to remember what people went through for it to be closed.

They restored the check point... including the sand bags in the front.
You can read the big announcement: YOU ARE LEAVING THE AMERICAN SECTOR (or YOU ARE ENTER) if you see the other side.

Check Point Charlie was as far as I was able to go due to restrictions I had on travel. Here is what the area looked like when the wall was in place.

The Mauer Museum is really interesting. It tells the story of many persons who escaped or tried to escape from the DDR. It is impressive how creative their ideas were and what they risked for their freedom. It is a must-see in Berlin as it helps to understand the terrible history of this city.
