The seat of the German government today and was re-located there only after the re-unification of Germany as Bonn was the capital for West Germany during the Cold War. It offers spectacular views of the city and is open to the public every day of the week.

After parting with Gary, we headed to the Reichstag Cupola/Dome as we had decided we had to go walk up in the dome. Johannes' aunt had told us we needed to see the Dome! The wait in line was about 45 minutes, which we didn't mind, as once we got closer to the building we could sit on the steps as we waited. Visits to the Dome and Dome Terrace are free of charge to the public and it opens daily from 8am to 12 midnight. The Reichstag Dome offers a 360 degree view of central Berlin which is just amazing. The Dome was designed by Norman Foster and it is truly unusual and interesting in design. I found the walk to the top not difficult at all. We were all very pleased to have visited this place.
The Reichstag building houses the Unified German Parliament.

The seat of the federal german parliament s open for vsitors too. And the entrance is for free. It's a gret possibility to look inside of this historical building. The most poplar object is the roof terrace with the glass dome (cupola). Dont's affraidof a long row before the entrance. The row moving quick, the maximal time you'll wait is 40 minutes. While you will standing in the row, you can took a free information about Reichstag, the information is given by young people near the main stairs.

.... and anyone else who can be bothered to queue up for hours outside...
Originally the seat of Parliament of the former German Empire, built in 1894 was completely renovated by Sir Norman Foster in 1999 and is once again the home of the Deutscher Bundestag.
As time was of the essence, I couldn't bring myself to queue indefinitely although on another trip I might. I stood around for quite some time but didn't see the line move once so I don't know how long it takes to actually get inside the building.
Please check the link for more information about the history.

The Reichstag houses the German parliament and is one of the most historical landmarks in Berlin. It is now the new capitol building where the German government(Brundestag) hold its meetings. It was designed by Paul Wallot in the Neo-Renaissance style between 1889-1894. The famous ”Dem Deutschen Volke”, to the German people saying was added to the building in 1916. A fire said to be started by communists destroyed much of the building in 1933.
The building was reconstructed from 1995-1999. In the latest reconstruction, a beautiful mirrored glass dome was added to the building. You can walk all the way to the top of the dome from 8 AM until midnight for free. It affords excellent view of Berlin from the top. Security is very tight here. If you make a dining reservation with Kafer Dachgarten you may be able to bypass some long lines.

It is the headquarters of the German Bundestag Berlin. An observation platform is in 40 metres of height with view to the Berlin centre round the Brandenburg Gate up to Potsdam place and gedächtniskirche. The dome is 23.5 metres high. With the new roof crown the German Reichstag building altogether 47 metres rises to the sky.
Who has managed to reach the inside also can take a look into the plenar hall. One must accept long waiting times, long queues are at every time.
The place in front of the building is nice, many peole take rest there.
The Reichstag has an very interesting history. The Reichstag is the original paliament of Germany. It was opened in 1894 and housed the Reichstag until 1933

After the reunification of 1990, the Reichstag was restored and a glass cupola was added to the historic building by the architect Norman Foster, symbolizing the new political openess of the reunified Germany. You can visit the cupola for free and enjoy the view, but be prepared for crowds.

The Reichstag was originally built in 1894 and was the seat of the German Parliament until 1933, when a terrible fire destroyed a large part of it. Further damage sustained during World War II reduced it to a wreck but restoration began in the 1960s.
After the reunification, Parliament returned to Berlin from Bonn and from 1999, the Reichstag once again became the seat of government. Further restorations then took place with British architect, Sir Norman Foster designing the present building.
A visit to the magnificent glass dome is a must and entrance is free. I've seen reports of very long queues but when I visited in January, there were few people and only a short wait. You have to pass through airport-type security, then a lift takes you to the base of the dome. From there, you can admire the amazing mirrored structure and walk to the top on a sloping spiral walkway around the edge. From the top, the views are tremendous.
Entrance is free and it's open daily from 08.00 to 24.00 hrs (Last admission 22.00 hrs) but check in advance because there are a few days during the year when it's closed.
Before you go in, look out for the helpful information kiosks outside the building where you can pick up a free and informative leaflet.

The famous inscription 'Dem Deutschen Volke' (To the German People) was only added in 1916. Also interesting is to know that the complete building was wraped or stretched by the famous artist Christo and his wife Jeanne in 1995.
It is worthed to go inside and have a look at the glass dome
Since April 1999, the Reichstag is once again the seat of the Bundestag.

The Reichstag was built at late XIXth century in Italian Renaissance style. It served as a seat of parliament in the Kaiserreich and the Weimar Republic. The fire in 1933 not only destroyed the plenary chamber, but allowed Hitler to blame on the communard party and be elected. It was seriously damaged again during World War II. Although there was a previous reconstruction, the Reichstag was rebuilt and renovated according to plans by Norman Foster in 90s. The interior was completely hollowed out and the plenary chamber, which is again at the centre of the building, is now below an elliptical glass dome on a round base with ramps leading to the top. This dome is one of the main attractions of Berlin nowadays. From April 1999, the Reichstag building is the official seat of the German parliament, the Bundestag. It can be visited and as you could see at the picture, there are usually long queues.
