Schloss Bellevue was built for Prince August Ferdinand of Prussia as a summer palace and was completed in 1791. It stands in 20 hectares of grounds and was used as a royal residence until 1918. It then had a number of different roles including serving as a guest house for the Third Reich. The building was badly damaged during WW2 and when renovations were complete in 1959 it became the secondary home for the President of Germany. After reunification it became the official residence for the President in 1994 and that is its role today.

Schloss Bellevue

Schloss Bellevue is a château in the centre of Berlin. It is situated on the north edge of the Tiergarten park, beside the Spree, near the Berlin Victory Column. It has been the principal residence of the German President since 1994.
Schloss Bellevue was built in 1786 for Prince Ferdinand of Prussia, as a summer residence, on the site of a house built in 1743 by Knobelsdorff. It was the first Neoclassical building in Germany). It is surrounded by a park covering 20 hectares.

It is a nice walk from Victory Column to Bellevue, belong the river Spree, Bundeskanzleramt, Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate and Avenue Unter den Linden (with Berlin Cathedral) or to Potsdamer Platz (including the Holocuast memorial)..

The château was erected by Prince Ferdinand of Prussia, the younger brother of King Friedrich II of Prussia, in 1786. Till 1918 it served as the official residence of the Crown Prince of Germany, now it is the residence of the German president.
Unfortunately of its original interior only one ballroom is conserved. This room was designed by Carl Gotthard Langhans, the architect of the Brandenburger Tor.

This castle was built in Prussia in just one year.(1785) The three wing shape is Baroque while the austere facade is classical.
Since 1993 it has been the first official residence of the German Federal President.
Just walk by and take a picture

Schloss Bellevue

This is where the German President lives. I read somewhere that Hindenberg - who appointed Hitler as Chancellor - was the last President to live here before reunification. Presidency is more ceremonial in Germany than, for example, USA. Most people know who the German Chancellor is, but does anyone (outside Germany) know who is President?

Schloss Bellevue is now the official residence of the federal president in Berlin.
The three-winged complex was constructed in 1785/86 to plans by Philipp Daniel Bouman, and was the first Berlin palace to be built in the classical style. The elongated main building is flanked by side wings (on the left the "Ladies' Wing", on the right the "Spree Wing"). The two-story main building's elaborate design contrasts with the completely plain, three-storied side wings. On its gables are sandstone figurines depicting Agriculture, Fish Farming, and Hunting.
Inside there is a ballroom designed by Carl Gotthard Langhans in 1791, which is now used for official receptions. The palace has not been inhabited since the 19th century and was used by various institutions. The current centered entrance was redesigned in 1938, when the building was converted to be the guest house of the government of the Third Reich. Badly damaged in the Second World War, the palace was renovated from 1954–59 as the official residence of the Federal President in Berlin. The smaller buildings in the garden were completely destroyed.

The nominal (representative) head of state in Germany is the "Bundespräsident". His residence is the Bellevue palace, adjacent to the Public Parc "Tiergarten". It is usually not open to the public.
