Watch out for the beer, especially when you are from Belgium and a beer lover.
I tasted twice a local beer - called Berliner Weisse mit Schuss
It is presented in two colours, green or red, the green syrup is woodruff, the pink syrup strawberry .
My advice : water is better than this upgraded limonade. But i'm from Belgium.

    Strong Beer

The Beer in Germany is very strong... so please do not drink it like you would at home... do not mix it with shots of keigermieser and vodka...

I think the problem with german beer is that

    a) it tastes so good
    b) it's in small glasses (there's a good reason for that)

you don't realise how much you've had to drink until its too late as most of the bars are sit down places... it's that horrible feeling you get when you get up off your chair to go to the bathroom or to leave and then you end up on the floor...

Trust me the last time i was drunk, was in Berlin and that was back in November 2005... I haven't looked at alcohol in the same way again.

    Menu in German

    ADVERTISEMENTS IN GERMAN

There was menu in English available in most restaurants I visited even in the cheapest ones. The waiters usually (but not always) knew a little bit English. But in the cheapest places to eat like in groceries which prepared snacks and some food (Edeka on my picture) there were advertisements exclusively in German.

My recommendation is to learn basic words on German dining/food. Follow the link below, choose Deutsch/German and then shopping/dining, download the pronunciation by clicking on each word and enjoy :-).
    Guten apetite :-)

    That white stuff ain't chicken!

Hey, if it's white in Germany it's SWINE! That includes the follwing surprises:

    Shwarma
    "Ham"bergers
    Pizza
Hot Dogs - Well not a real surprise

So think twice if you want to stay Kosher. I found very little chicken available and was fooled by white looking meat a few times. Stick to McDs. At least you know what Kangaroo meat tastes like already...
