This rock (Schill-Gedenkstein) is a memorial place for the Prussian hussar Major Ferdinand von Schill. 1809, Major Schill believed that the situation in Brandenburg looked similar scary like the situation of Austria and Westphalia, and that he there for had to come out to fight the French. So for this defense he, with his Hussars regiment, crossed the Havel river. Eventually yet Major Schill & regiment - left alone by their king - died in the fight of Stralsund. This place of memorial sits right above Geltow's Baumgarten Bridge on so called Franzensberg. There's a parking place where visitors can leave their car, and take stairs up the hill.
