This small village with only about 800 people has also a small harbour for the Spreewald boats. Boblitz is not much known. So there are not so many tourists going there. But it certainly has the more quiet and most lovely areas of the Spreewald channels.
In Spreewald - a rather large area south of Berlin - you may see artificial canals , that were built simply in order to protect the area of the regular floods of the river Spree.And since plenty of centuries it is usual to go on these waterarms with small boats driven by a ' Spreewald- Gondoliere ' who has a large stick to move on the boats.It became a real tourist-event, already in the times of DDR - (the so called Democratic Republic of Germany) and is still a great event today.I spent 3 days there and we took several rides with these great boats - at some areas they go with the engine and some parts like the 'Hochwald' - the 'high forest' the gondoliere has to push the boat...
The king often tried to persuade the miller to sell his windmill to the king, who needed some extra space for the castle's park, and mainly did not want to have the mill as a background to he beloved castle Sanscoussi...Also the noises of the windmill were quite disturbing at certain times....BUT the miller restisted and did not sell the mill to his king....What a great king, NOT to force the miller by unfair means and pressure !
