On Lufthansa by sue_stone We flew to Frankfurt with Lufthansa, from London Gatwick. The flight took about 1.5 hours, and arrived at Flughafen airport, which is Germany's largest airport and one of the busiest in Europe. It is located about 15 minutes by train from the centre of Frankfurt. The airport is quite nice and organised, with some interesting shops to browse in before you go through security. There are two terminals which are connected by the "Sky Line". The train station is connected to Terminal 1, which is where Lufthansa flights (and other Star Alliance airlines) arrive. Be warned that if you choose to travel to Frankfurt from the UK with Ryanair, you will land at Frankfurt-Hahn airport, which is almost 2 hours drive away! Leave a Comment

Frankfurt's Airport, often shortened to Fraport, is one of the busiest in the world, and the busiest in continental Europe. Many people coming for a visit to Germany or Europe will transit this airport, often with many hours to waste between flights. The main city of Frankfurt is less than half an hour away by public transport, so if you are stuck in transit it is worth a trip to the center to wander around and grab a bite to eat in one of its many excellent cafes. Frankfurt Airport has two stations, one regional and one for long distance trains like the ICE. If you are heading for the city, head to the regional station and take S-8 or S-9 towards the Hauptbahnhof. I'd recommend getting out at Hauptwache or Konstablerwache if you want to kick start your visit right in the middle of things. There's not much need to talk about where you can fly to from Fraport, because if a plane can make it that far, and it has an airport, chances are there will be a flight scheduled there from here. Almost every major airline in the world, barring those that are banned from flying over Europe, has a base here, and of course it is the major hub for the national carrier Lufthansa. There's not much in the way of budget flights from here, but there are a few. The quality budget airline, Air Berlin, flies a number of routes from Fraport, to places like Lisbon, Paris and Barcelona. A few other budget airlines also operate routes from here, mostly charter flights to beach resorts. These include Lufthansa's budget wing, Condor, as well as LTU and Hapagfly. Don't be mistaken into thinking that Fraport is the same Frankfurt airport that Ryan Air flies to. That is Frankfurt-Hahn, which isn't anywhere near Frankfurt, and closer to Luxembourg than the city it claims to serve. Leave a Comment

The Frankfurt International Airport is known in German as Flughafen Frankfurt am Main or Rhein-Main-Flughafen. Among other things, it is Lufthansa's major European hub. It is by far the largest airport by passenger traffic in Germany, the third largest in Europe, and the eighth largest worldwide. Inside the airport, there are many stores, including some large duty-free shops. There are also quite a few restaurants and cafes, including the Goethe bar/cafe and a McDonalds. I saw some storage lockers, but I didn't use one. If you have sufficient time between flights, perhaps you could use the lockers to store your luggage and do some sightseeing in Frankfurt. The airport is located approximately 12 km southwest of the city center. Theme: Airplane

Flight Board by ATXtraveler If you are coming into Germany from around the world, you will likely come into Frankfurt am Main International Airport (FRA). On our particular trip, we came in directly from Dallas/Fort Worth Airport (DFW), which was very convienent. This is an international hub for Lufthansa Airlines as well. Air France, Lufthansa, British Airlines and American all land here, as well as many from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. After departing the airplane, I was through customs in about 10 minutes, which was really fast for any international location, but even better I was to the train station for a departure in less than 20 minutes. Granted, I never check luggage, but this was still a very fast process. Leave a Comment

My selection for the cheese course by jessicadf On our most recent trip, we cashed in United Airlines frequent flier miles to fly business class on Singapore Airlines to Frankfurt and back. I'd always heard very positive things about Singapore Airlines. But my goodness, they surpassed the happy stories we'd been told. It's going to be hard going back to cattle class on any other airline, that's for sure! The seats reclined to a fully flat bed, we had our own TV with 60 on demand movies, countless on demand tv shows, on demand CDs, Berlitz interactive language courses, video games..., silk covered pillows, soft blankets, eye shades, terry cloth slippers, bathrooms stocked with tooth brushes, tooth paste, shavers, shave cream, after shave, lotion, wash cloths... hot wash cloths passed several times during the trip. Plus multi-course gourmet meals twice during the flight. And, of course, the staff were extremely friendly and gracious. Ahhhhhhhh. The ONLY way to fly! Leave a Comment

Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) is the biggest airport in Germany and also in mainland Europe and is amongst the top 3 in Europe as well for passenger transportation, cargo traffic and plane movement. It has two terminals that are connected, but it always surprises me that in the end I do find my way around.... It is always a good idea to check the website of the Rhein-Main-Flughafen to see which terminal you have to go to! Please note: the Frankfurt International Airport has nothing to do with the Ryan Air Airport of Frankfurt-Hahn! This budget airport is about 120 km away from Frankfurt!!! Leave a Comment

Fly Singapore! by bliss7 Singapore Airlines is the best airline I've ever traveled on. In all areas: comfort, service, food, entertainment, they are top notch. The stewardesses are beautiful Asian women with beautifully designed dresses . Their politeness and smiles are unmatched. And for the first time ever, the food is actually good. Their chicken was very good, it came with potatoes and then a Klondike bar for dessert! For entertainment, I would probably have to fly 6 times around the world to exhaust the options. There are about 50 movies to choose from, television shows, (including Seinfeld! ), you can play the old school Super Mario Brothers, you can "learn a language," you can play poker, anything! They also give you a nice blanket, and some touristy purple socks if your feet get cold. :) They offer flights from JFK in New York to Singapore, and Frankfurt was the midway point. Leave a Comment

RyanAir and several other Low-Cost-Airlines fly to and from airport Frankfurt-Hahn. The name is misleading as the small airport is roughly 1 1/2 hours by car/bus from Frankfurt. This should not bother you, as there are regular and reliable bus connections as well as car rental desks, so getting to and from Frankfurt-Hahn is no problem. If you intend only to stay in Frankfurt, a car is not necessary as there is a good public transport system. Just be aware not to choose an accomodation near Hahn, as it is in the middle of nowhere.
