Update: I'll leave this tip as it is for historical reasons, but the sad fact of the matter is that the Künstlerkeller has been closed since March 1, 2007, because of insolvency. There is talk of re-opening under new management in the autumn of 2007, but it's all rather vague at the moment, so we are currently trying out other places to go after the opera. (Watch this space for further developments.) This is where we all go after the opera. It's big and loud, but very pleasant, and often the singers and other people who work at the opera house come here, too. It can get very full some nights, so I usually reserve a table if I know or think I am coming with a group. They are willing to reserve for up to 150 people, but I have never gone higher than twenty up to now. They have beer, wine, apple wine, mineral water, all the usual stuff. And warm meals until 1:00 a.m. I used to think they closed at 3:00, but we were there until 4:15 recently and they didn't throw us out. Maybe they just like us, I don't know. Second photo: This is the corner of Weißfrauenstraße and Seckbächer Gasse. You can miss it because there is a travel agency called Explorer on the corner. Cross the street here and turn right. Walk past the Klosterhof, and after just a few meters you will see ... Third photo: ... this sign at the entrance to the Künstlerkeller. As the name implies, it's down in the basement. You have to walk through a yard and ... Fourth photo: ... down some steps to get in. Unfortunately it does not have a proper entrance for people in wheelchairs. Fifth photo: On January 27, 2007 we had a VT meeting in the Künstlerkeller. Please feel free to click here to see more photos of the meeting. by chicabonita - Cafe - Restaurant - Dancefloor - You can dance salsa every sunday night. At round about 8pm you can join a short dancing lesson which shows you the basics. Or you just come and try your luck on the dancefloor. Maybe the Italian dance teacher Francesco also asks you for a dance and shows you all the basics. I'm not a very good dancer but he had so much patience with me ... Living it, loving it, go the U60! by amyhenderson The U60 club is a bit of a landmark of the Frankfurt underground music scene. Techno music was founded in Frankfurt, and no doubt some of the first ever Techno was played in this club. Therefore, they really know what they are doing here. Sven Vaeth, Boris Dlugosh, Chris Liebing... are just a few of the names to grace the decks at this fabulous club. Friday nights are Techno nights and you are best getting there at 11pm. Saturday nights is mostly House music, and DJ Karotte is definitely my Saturday night favourite!! Yip, yippppeeee!! But another Saturday night great is the very lovely TONKA (check out www.familyaffairs.de for details on both these guys). Check out the website - www.u60311.net to see when and who are playing... There is often stuff on mid-week too, so its all worth checking out. This place, ladies and gentleman, is the true music-lovers, get down and dance and get dirty kinda place. Take it easy or just take it!
Pretty much anything goes. The crowd is generally the sneaker, jeans and tshirt crowd. Majority of crowd fall into the 20-30 age group, but don't be shy if you don't! A bar first and a club second, this place offers something very special for the late night partier: no cover charge. The music is always house, the theme is barely Inca, and there are usually drink specials on. The first section is primarily a bar, but in the back there are large vinyl booths set up round a smallish dance floor. A bit crowded, with a very hip atmosphere. Open every night, but the popular nights are Thurs, Fri & Sat as expected. Friendly bar staff & later on, good for a little dancing! Open 19:00-04:00 except: Fri: 19:00-05:00 Sat: 19:00-05:00

Set in the basement of the Dresdner bank, and jutting out into am Uhrturmchen with its diminutive clock tower, this tiny bar and cafe is very popular with the locals. During the day it has an extensive and varied menu of tasty dishes, which you can either eat inside the smoky bar, or outside on am Uhrturmchen if the weather allows. In the evening the interior turns darker and smokier, and you can enjoy a beer and listen to laid back tunes in a cozy environment. Some nights they somehow manage to squeeze a little band, usually jazz or similar, into one corner of the bar.
Relaxed. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingDirections: Am Uhrturmchen, at the junction of Bergerstrasse and Arnsburgerstrasse. Just get a U-Bahn to Bornheim Mitte and it is right next to the station by the little clock tower.

Easily one of the places to wile away an evening in the city, Bergerstrasse is a long, long street packed with a string of excellent bars and restaurants to suit every taste, everything from cheap drinking stalls to chic upmarket clubs. Typically of German cities, the bars are all relaxed and the street is very safe. There are no drunken brawls like in England.
Many of the bars and clubs have people who are extremely well dressed, enough to put us slackers to shame. That said, few, if any, have any dress restrictions. Bouncers aren't a common sight. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: Bergerstrasse, BornheimDirections: Take the U-Bahn to any of the central Bornheim stations, like Bornheim Mitte.

Inside/Outside at the Vinyl Bar, Frankfurt by amyhenderson Vinyl Bar is on Hanauer Landstr. But WAIT! Before you think of all the other commercialised, big, sleazy nightclubs on this street, think of going to the Vinyl Bar because its anything but that. Very friendly, funky, young crowd. Often young, rising DJs play here before they've really made the bigtime. Everything about this place is relaxed. The bar staff are particularly friendly and, I must add, good-looking. Check out whats on before you head here, because music styles can vary.
Anything cool. Pretty relaxed. Leave a Comment

Sachsenhausen is one of Frankfurt's top nightlife areas. It has a wide variety of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs where you can spend an entire evening. Our favorite spots in Sachsenhausen were the Afrika Bar, the Irish Pub, the Latin Bar, and the Firehouse (for a little rock and metal). On a typical evening, we'd hit a few other places as well, but these were the old standby spots. Sachsenhausen is located south of the Main River, just southeast of the Roemer-platz. From the Romer, cross the river on the pedestrian bridge (Eiserner Steg), and turn left. Walk along the river past the next bridge (Alte Brucke) -- this bridge crosses an island. Take the next right AFTER the Alte Brucke onto a street that angles off at a 45 degree angle. This is called Rittersgasse and leads right into Sachenhausen's bar district. In recent years this areas has become home to Frankfurt's Turkish population, and boasts numerous tasty Doner Kebap stands and other non-German places. The hotel in Sachsenhausen where I stayed was owned by non-Germans as well. My link below takes you to a Frankfurt map... just click on "Citymap", then zoom into the area labeled Sachsenhausen. On the U-Bahn, you can take the U1, U2, or U3 to Schweizerplaz or Frankfurt Sud stations. From the S-Bahn, get off at Frankfurt Sud or Lokalbahnhof stations. A taxi might be even easier!
