Great place to eat typical German food and very good prices.. BUT smoking is allowed in this restaurant and unfortunately the chain smoking group at next table did spoil our meal a little.
Favorite Dish: Wiener schnitzel..was awesome!

Across the river in Sachsenhausen there are many apfelwein bars. The first we found was this one, didn't plan to stay for long but spent most of the afternoon ! Apfelwein is similar to cider sold in the UK, not the awful fizzy cr*p like Strongbow or Bulmers but perhaps the closest is scrumpy, though apfelwein is much smoother and very easy to drink. Almost like a small beer hall inside and a good outside drinking area too.......Handkas mit musik appears to be a traditional dish of marinated cheese with vinaigrette to go with it, very nice too.

Adolf Wagner seems to be fairly popular for the tourists as well as the locals, although it's not my favorite Frankfurter restaurant. Stil it does have the same homey atmosphere it's neighbor does in Zum Gemalten Haus.
I guess one of the reasons why it's so popular is because there is always a waiter running around with a caddy full of full apple wine glasses, and his whisks your empty glass away and puts a fresh one in front of you before you can say a word.
Favorite Dish: Wagner has the best "Tafelspitz" or slow-cooked tri-tip steaks with horseradish sauce and boiled potatos. Order it with horseradish sauce instead of green sauce, because like the neighbor restaurant, Zum Gemalten Hause they make their green sauce with oil instead of yoghurt.

Whenever I have international visitors, I bring them here. This a typical Frankfurt apple wine locale that serves German and Frankfurt specialities. It is often full - so come early - at 6 pm or so you should get a seat.
Favorite Dish: Their Grüne Soße is great - the Jägerschnitzel (pan-fried pork cutlet with mushroom gravy) is always a fave of mine. And their pan-fried potatoes are divine!
You can't order beer here, just apple wine. Get a big "Bembel" and some water - to soften the taste if it is your first time!

Very nice garden inside, with a very, very nice waiter that could understand the only word that we could speak in German: Apfelwein, bitte!
Favorite Dish: Schlachtplatte with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes
