Römer Bembel: Romer Bembel
Romer Bembel is a bar and restaurant located smack in the middle of the beautiful Romerberg (central square). Prior to our trip I had read that it was surprisingly un-touristy, so we decided to brave it for drinks and dinner one evening. Not the cheapest option, but enjoyable.
We chose a table out on the square, as the evening was not too cool (and there were heaters as well). We ordered a couple of small (half litre) beers and relaxed for a while, enjoying some people watching in the square.
Favorite Dish: As the light faded it was time to eat before I got too tipsy (I'm a cheap drunk!), so we ordered from the interesting menu - a Filet steak with potatoes and herb butter, and a Port knuckle with cabbage and of course potatoes.
A couple of glasses of red wine were in order as well, as was a slice of Apple Strudel for dessert. Thankfully it was a 20 minute walk back to our hotel.
Römer-Bembel: Dine opposite of the famous 'Römer'
Located in an old and very picturesque half-timbered house at the 'Römerberg' in the center of Frankfurt, this small restaurant serves some local dishes (besides others). And as the name suggests you can try a local drink as well. A 'Bembel' is a traditional earthenware jar that is used in Frankfurt and the surrounding region for cider.
In front of the restaurant there are some outdoor tables. In summer this is an ideal place to sit and watch the people on Frankfurts most famous place.
Favorite Dish: One of the local specialities is the 'green sauce' which is made from several herbs, eggs, oil and mayonnaise and is served with cooked meat, fish or potatoes. It's delicous and you should try it if you are in Frankfurt.
The cider however is not to everybodies taste. This drink normally is very dry or even sour. So be careful when tasting.

This place is in the center of tourist Frankfurt at the Römerberg with a fantastic view of the whole square and the lovely facades of the houses and the townhall. I had expected it to be very touristy, unfriendly, expensive and with mediocre quality, but no, I was very pleasantly surprised!
When we entered we were welcomed by VT members Gammy1968 and outforlunch and their lovely little daughter Emily. We sat next to the window and could overlook the square, but actually we were too busy chatting and eating and drinking that the view was only secondary!
They serve typical German and even Frankfurter specialities, like grilled saussages, Frankfurt green sauce (a sort of mayonnaise with 8 different herbs) that goes along well with various meats and other dishes, fish, salads and great Bratkartoffeln (fried potatoes).
I joined Jim in drinking some of the typical "Äppelwoi" (apple cider) and was totally satisfied!
The top quality definitely is the location and the view (both from some inside tables as well as from the outside tables), and combined with absolutely fair prices and nice food it is a great place to go to!
