It is said that you have to eat "sauerkraut" on New Year's Eve so that you always have money in the new year.
A traditional lunch is therefore mashed potatoes with sauerkraut and meat. The meat will be for example blood and liver sausages (I never ever eat those!!!) or smoked pork chop.
I normally visit my parents to have lunch with them but haven't done it yesterday ... so will I have enought money to travel in 2004???

With the begining of the grape-harvesting the time of the new wine also called Federweisser starts.
Together with Zwiebelkuchen (onion tart) it is now the local food to eat!!!
In all backeries you find signs saying "buy new wine and onion tart" You can buy the new wine at one of the wineries or at the winegrowers' cooperative. They have special stalls on the street in front of their houses. You can also find special stalls at supermarkets where you can buy it.
New wine is very delicous! I like it very much! Just have bought a bottle of it today! So don't wonder is I write something strange :-))
If you taste it be careful. You don't taste the alcohol and you don't feel it directly. When leaving a pub after several glasses of it you can get the feeling that someone smashes your head! New wine has about 11% alcohol.
New wine can not be stored. It is best to drink it the same day you bought it!

End of April, beginning of May it is time for asparagus. Now you can watch on the fields the people who cut asparagus. Mostly you can buy it directly at the field. The farmer has a little stand besides the field for selling the asparagus.
I could eat fresh asparagus nearly every day. That's why I visite my parents nearly every sunday during that special time because they are also crazy about it and my mother cooks it at least each sunday. We eat it with potatoes, sauce hollandaise and different sorts of ham. Mmmmmmmmmmhhh delicious. It is without saying that you drink a good white wine with it ...
