Hubby knows how much I enjoy the lanterns in Heppenheim; so this Christmas he surprised me with my very own lantern. After placing a candle inside the lantern and lighting it up, the lantern looks just like one of the many you find on the cobbled streets of Heppenheim. Each of the four sides have a different picture from a legend – one of my goals will be to figure out the four legends on my lantern.
Hubby secretly bought it at the Tourist Information Office when he was in Heppenheim without me. I didn’t ask how much he paid for it, but it has become my favorite gift this year.
The TI Center is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 – 17:00 and between April and September also open on Saturdays from 10:00 – 16:00. It is located in the center market next to the Rathaus (Town Hall).

Heppenheim is a wine city located in the Hessiche Bergstrasse which, in my opinion, produces some of the best wines Germany has to offer. It is also one of the smallest – if not the smallest – wine region in the country. Rieslings are their best wine, but they have quite a few other whites, some rosés, and a handful of reds.
Conveniently located on the B-3 in Heppenheim is the Bergstrasse Winzer cooperative where you can sample the wines and purchase the ones you like. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, willing to answer any of your questions and help you select the best wine for your needs.

At the Langnese plant you find a little store - the factory outlet. It is opened twice a week and each week they have different offers of icecream, pizzas and other freezed food like vegetables.
What to buy: Today I went for the first time. I bought icecream and pizza. Now the deep freeze of our frigde is totally packed with icecream!!!
What to pay: less than in a normal supermarket

On two saturdays (June and August) a flea market takes place. Everyone can sell what one like and don't need any more. But only private people can have a stall. The flea market is nicely located in a street with many trees.
What to buy: All and nothing. Like on every flea market. It is always fun to go!
