Possibly the most beautiful sight in Hofheim is the tower of St. Peter and Paul rising up above the old town, a green band of rolling Taunus mountains behind it. The distinctive tower is even older than the Altes Rathaus, dating back six centuries to the 1400s. It's since become an icon for the town.

Turmchen, Hofheim

One of the most distinctive sights in the town is the little tower, or Turmchen. This rotunda rises up from the profile of half-timbered houses called the Burggrabenzeile. This low rise row of houses were built on what once formed the old city walls. Today it forms a border between the car park and sometimes market, and the tight narrow streets of the old town behind.

Altes Rathaus, Hofheim

As the cobbled shopping street forks as it meanders up the hill, it splits along the flanks of the old town house. Now when I say old, I mean proper old. Nearly half a millennium old. It was built in 1529 and has only been fixed up a little since. Like a lot of the old town of Hofheim, it is a wonderful half-timbered building reminiscent of more obvious tourist destinations like Tubingen.

Or just boccia in the park

While Hofheim doesn’t have the cultural resources of Frankfurt, Wiesbaden or Mainz..the cultural activities yet ranging from theatre, cabaret, concerts, exhibitions at the municipal museum, multi-media at the local library to more than 70 artistic or cultural clubs. The offerings are so diverse that everyone can find something which corresponds to their interests. Hofheim is also host to a number of outdoor festivals, such as Waeldchestag, the May Fair, Gallus Fair, KreisStadtSommer, and St. Nicholas Fair. The romantic ambience of the historical old town contributes to the special atmosphere at these annual events. Twice a week, a farmers market also takes place at the Untertor (city gate).

Or just play boccia in the local park. It has a nice boccia alley I thought. Boccia is like the Italian lawn bowling game bocce that can be enjoyed by disabled and non-disabled players of any age. An official Boccia court is 12.5 meters long by 6 meters wide including six throwing boxes. The balls are leather, filled with sand or plastic granules and are 3 ¼ inches in diameter. Here are the basics of how to play boccia.

Hofheim has two kinds of trains, suburban S-bahn trains, which are the most convenient for getting to and from the city. You can also stop off at Hofheim en route to other beautiful Hessen towns, like Idstein and Limburg an der Lahn, using the red regional trains. The station is very close to the old town center.

The city is: Near 5 national highways and two regional train lines. Near the cities of Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Mainz as well as the Frankfurt Airport. Near to its resident with a modern administrative structure for example, the Buerger Buero is open 50 hours per week. Near to the unique historic old town with it’s quaint charm. Near to diverse gastronomy offerings. Near to a diverse offering of sports such as the Rhein-Main-Therme waterpark and 18 hole golf course. Near to many cultural offerings from the city as well as many clubs, churches and private initiatives. Near to nature thanks to its location at the foot of the Taunus mountains. Near to the International School Frankfurt Rhein Main in Sindlingen.
