    Castle of Runkel

    by himalia11 Updated May 15, 2009

There's a nice castle which is partly ruined and that you can't overlook. In a part of it, the prince and princess von Wied are living and the rest is open for public. It has a little museum and from its tower you have a nice view on the town, the river and the valley.
It's not clear when exactly the castle has been build, legends say it was 778. In the 13th century, there had been some quarrels in the family and as a result a castle on the opposite side of the Lahn was build, which is located in Runkel-Schadeck. You can see it from below, but it cannot be visited.

Closed on mondays. Open from Good Friday to end of October, 10:00 - 17:00.

Admission: adults 3,-, children 2,-. Guided tours only on prior notification.

Mancuso: Get some great ice cream!

    by himalia11 Updated May 15, 2009

At "Mancuso", you'll get the best ice cream in this region! Everybody knows this, so on hot summer days, you may have to queue a bit.

You'll find "Mancuso" on the left side of the river Lahn, not far away of the bridge (upstream).

Update 2009: It is no longer called Mancuso, but I can't recall it's new name. In any case the ice cream is still good - and there still queues at a sunny day!
