Favorite thing: Tollensee (17km²), which borders the city of Neubrandenburg to the north, is considered to be one of the most beautiful of the over 1,000 lakes in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It has its origins in the latest Ice Age and you can find erratic blocks from Scandinavia all over the area.

Favorite thing: The city of Neubrandenburg is located south of Greifswald, at Lake Tollen/Tollensee. The city itself isn't very nice though to be honest. 80% of Neubrandenburg got destroyed by the Russians during WW2 and today it's still dominated by socialist architecture. However there are some remainings of the time before the war as you can see on the picture.

Favorite thing: The region of Mecklenburg West-Pomerania was first settled by the Wends in 6th century. In 1621 the states was divided into the duchies of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Güstrow. The imperial General Wallenstein conquered both in 1628 and three years later the Swedes retook the state. At the Congress of Vienna in 1815 both divisions of Mecklenburg were raised to grand duchies. They both joined the German Empire at its founding in 1871. In 1934 the separate states were united. While Soviet occupation the state was divided into the districts of Schwerin, Rostock and Neubrandenburg. In 1990 the districts has been reunited and are known today as Mecklenburg–West Pomerania.
