Devoted to St. Nicholas, the biggest church in Greifswald has it's origins in the 13th century and was changed to it's modern form in the early 15th century.
It was here that the University was founded in 1456 and there is a picture in the Dom remembering that day.
The tower of the Dom is almost 100 meters high - giving it the name "langer Nick" - long Nick. A nice climb on a good day.
The church is built in brickwork, typical for northern Germany and ranges among the most important medieval brickwork buildings. It is still used as a church as well as for concerts (you might see the University's church music students in concert) and university celebrations.

The highest chuch in Greifswald and was build in the 13th century. From the top of the steeple you will have a very nice view!
It costs 1,5 euro to go upstairs.
The view platform is 60 meters high and you have to climb 264 steps to go there. The steeple itself is 99,997m high and was build in 1652/53.
You can get a taste of the view from the steeple here:
See the Rubenow-Denkmal

This nice building was build in 1369 as a department store. Now it is the town hall and also home of the tourist information office
(St. Maria's Church) Marienkirche
The St. Maria's Church was, like the St. Nikolai church, build in the 13th century.
It is one of three gothic churches and maybe even the oldes one in Greifswald.
I found this painting on a wall close to the Cathedral. It's a kind of graffiti but looks nice, doesn't it?
