Favorite thing: The town got its name from the Kühlung, a ridge a few kms inland. This is a popular area for hiking with beech forests and viewpoints. The highest 'peak' reaches a height of some 130 m above sea level.
- Mountain Climbing
- Hiking and Walking
Favorite thing: Like most resorts Kühlungsborn charges Kurtaxe, a tax of 2 € per day in high season, 1 € per day in low season. Guests who stay in Kühlungsborn pay this tax with their accommodation bill. Day visitors have to pay at the beach entrances. You receive a Kurkarte with your name and the dates of your stay. Carry your Kurkarte all the time. Some shops, museums etc. give discounts if a Kurkarte is presented.
Because you asked, yes there are controls on the beach.
Fondest memory: The Kurtaxe pays for the regular cleaning of the beach and the beach promenade, which are remarkably clean. For the public toilets along the beach promenade, which are frequent and well kept. For the maintenance of the playgrounds, of which there are several big ones. For the events in the concert gardens, the reading hall, the beach volleyball fields, etc. Kühlungsborn is very clean and a lot is done for the well-being and entertainment of their visitors, so this money is well invested.
