Lovely find! in a secluded courtyard near to the city centre, well signed.
An early lunch here for us before heading to the port, warm day and good outside seating with fast and friendly service. Turkey steak with memorable curried pineapple for me and a huge salad for herself, both meals excellent.
Well worth finding.

Good name to start with!
Just across the road from our guesthouse and a couple of visits here, secondly for a late evening "nightcap", cocktail for herself! but firstly an evening meal.
Interesting menu to choose from here, loved the idea of German tapas and there's plenty to attract the vegetarian Mrs B as well.
Very good tasty food, friendly and comfortable inside and out, prices reasonable - a good place to visit, enjoyed.

Two visits here for us, walking by the Warnow we spotted the terrace and stopped for a beer, Mrs B, as ever, found a menu and with several vegetarian choices she insisted on a revisit later!
Good idea, both enjoyed our meal here a tasty Flammküchen with fresh pfifferlingen (mushrooms) for me with spinach and cheese cakes for herself.
Very pleasant terrace, with strandkorb for one of us, enjoyed ourselves here!

Large modern brewpub close to Rostock zoo. A lunchtime visit for us, a couple of decent beers on offer and an interesting menu to choose from. Comfortable and busy inside with a beergarden for better weather outside.
Enjoyed our visit.

Only had one night in Rostock.
Evening stroll to choose somewhere for dinner led us here.
The maritime ambience may seem to some overdone, but the food and the beer was good, service friendly and all in all a comfortable experience.

The Marientreff is located in a small and very old house just near St. Marien Church. Is does not look very spectacular. But is the ideal place to have rest from sightseeing. The coffee is very good. They also servce homemade cakes. Just sit down on the old red couch and enjoy! The people who work here, do it voluntary. The money they get for coffee and cake helps them to organize and do voluntary work with disabled or homeless people.
It is open from Monday to Saturday 11:30h to 17:30h
Favorite Dish: The applecake I had was still warm and very good! and it was very cheap.

I was taken to The Heumond for lunch by my local friend who knew it from her student years living in the city. It is tucked away down some steps in a park. They have a good, simple menu, with lots of pasta and things suitable for vegetarians - the friendly staff serve good tea too!! It is a busy, smoking restaurant and there are a lot of smokers in Rostock! There is also a lot of reading material around the walls for the customers perusal too. They totally win my approval purely for their taste in music.. while we were visiting, the CD playing was Kings of Convenience, a fab Norweigan band I saw in Brighton a couple of years ago. Well done The Heumond!!! It was SUCH a relief to hear good music after days of Depeche Mode and other bad 80's bands that seem to be so popular amongst locals even today!
Oh! I had better warn you about the ladies loo - this is a Biological cafe - which means that it cares about the environment. My friend had warned me about the toilets but I hadn't really taken too much notice. On the walls of the toilet cubicle there are posters describing the *Bio-System* - It involved lots of arrows pointing in a clockwise direction with various stages of the processes of waste disposal in between. The toilet is very deep and wide and very very dark, it goes directly into the ground some 20m from where you are sitting.. and it was actually quite scary.. you could lose a small child down there!! Oh and there is a stiff breeze blowing up from it too. Anyway.. it was a unique experience for me!! :))
Favorite Dish: I had pasta with tomato, basil and feta cheese for a few Euro. It was very very good!

Ok.. to be honest.. I am slightly biased because this restaurant is owned by my hosts family! It is a well known and very popular restaurant on the seafront who use local produce and fish suppliers to serve delicious meals - flounder being a speciality of the house!
