Haus Alexander: Delicious Fish
What's the best food to eat when you're on an island? Fish of course.
We discovered this restaurant close to the beach in Trassenheide, tried the fish and came back. It was delicious! On the groundfloor there is bar,the restaurant is on the first floor. If you're lucky you can get a table near the window with a sea view. As it was always busy,we were never lucky enough, though.
However, the food was always excellent. My favourite meal was called "drunken fish", fish baked in a coating of bread and black beer, really good! This is not a fast food place, everything was prepared freshly, so it took some time, but it's worth waiting for good food.
The restaurant is not expensive, for a dinner for two, including beer, coffee and after-dinner brandy we paid between 38 and 42 Euro.
The website makes it look like a holiday apartment, but the pictures are taken inside the restaurant.
La Posada: Mexican on Usedom
This Mexican restaurant is on the promenade along the beach in Bansin and is an example for trying to do too much at the same time. The menu is large and there are lots of tables crammed into a narrow space. I think, the management couldn't decide if they want a fast food place or a restaurant, so they settled on something in between.
The food was brought to us very fast, it was only average, but the prices more like those of a restaurant. We paid 29 Euro for a vegetarian taco and tuna enchilada, no wine or beer included, but juice and coffee. Not worth it, we thought, and we didn't go back.
Café am Deich: 106 types of coffee
In the outskirts of Peenemünde there is the Café am Deich, at the embankment. They specialize in more than 100 different varieties of coffee, also 26 brands of tea and good hot chocolade. We couldn't make up our mind, so had two different coffees each, for a bit more than 10 Euro. It was a good place to rest after all the impressions we got in the museums of Peenemünde.
Stolperhof: A step back in time
Stolperhof is an ecological hotel/restaurant/ farm. They offer vacations away from modern civilization, going as far as no TV in the rooms, wearing old-fashioned farmers' clothing and using some old-fashioned words.
I'm sure it's wonderful for families with small children as there are so many things to do. They also offer knitting, spinning, bread baking classes etc. We looked around a bit and then went to restaurant, where we had coffee and freshly baked waffles, they were delicious!
They also brew their own dark beer, but don't have a licence to sell it for take away, it has to be drunk on the farm. I thought this was a strange law, but apparently this will be phase two of getting a licence and so far they have only reached phase one. Since it was too early in the day for a beer and I couldn't buy a bottle, I cannot comment on it.
Rankwitz: Best fish and seafood restaurant there
Wonderful and low priced meals, nice ambiance and very good service!
The bar has the form of a bow.
You can also sit outside with terrific view above the little haven. At eveing a great event!
