Favorite thing: Ankum is a very small village near Osnabrück (about 36 km) Ankum is located in the province Niedersachsen in the beautiful forest Teutoburgerwald.
Ankum is located about 100 km from the Dutch border and 107 km from the city Bremen.
The geographic coordinates Ankum are: 52 ° 33 '0 "North, 7 ° 52' 0" East.
Ankum is a very small village but you have the possibility to stay overnight there
Ankum have about 7500 residents, four hotels and a few bed and breakfast are available.
In Ankum you have the possibility to riding horse, where you can playing golf by the Artland Golfclub in Ankum.
Located by the Ankumer lake you have the possibility to use the tennis courts and where you can enjoy the park or fish on the small lake (you can not swim there).
By the local tourist bureau you can get nice route's for hiking, cycling or to moutainbike.
When you are coming without a bicycle to Ankum, it is possible too hire one, for about 7 euro p/day. More information you can get by the locale tourist bureau.
Member communitie Bersenbrück is about 5 km from Ankum, it is more bigger than Ankum nice to see, there you can also visit the Kreismuseum.
When you want to you eat similar like mc donald you can eat bij Happy Food in Bersenbrück.
There you can eat cheap and they have there also a good tasty salads, if you like the dressing :-)
From the trainstation in Bersenbrück it is possible to take the train to Osnabrück.
Unfortunately the trainstation in Ankum is no longer in use, but you have the possibility to take the bus to Bersenbrück or Osnabrück etc.
Interesting and historical to see in Ankum and in the neighborhood for example:
- the ärtlander cathedral in Akum,
- the native home of Michel stairs,
- the prehistoric route Giersfeld / Westerholt,
- Kreismuseum in Bersenbrück
- Tuchmachermuseum in Bramsche (Bramsche is a small city, but unfortunately uninteresting to see).
- Special to see is for example the Museumdorf in Cloppenburg, (42 km away)
- Special to see is the Varusslacht in Kalkriese, where the Romans once there, the decisive battle against the Germans lost. The new museum invites you to visit with lectures on the current state of the excavations.
Very nice to see en to enjoy in the neighborhood of Ankum is the Alfsee (about 15 km away). There you have the possibility for too swim, sunbathing, boating, sailing, surfing, beach volleyball, mini golf, pony riding and karting.
Located on the Alfsee where you can stay over is the the hotel Piazza, or rent an appartment, or a house for the holidays, or to stay in a hostel by the Alfsee.
The Alfsee is a five star ***** camping and holiday park nominated by the german ADAC as Superplatz, the Dutch ANWB has The Alfsee indexed as 9.2.
The restaurants and places where you can eat in Ankum are good places.
You have the possibility to choose from 26 dining options from restaurants to a snackbar.
When you want a good tasty icecream than i recommend you the icesaloon located on the Artländer Dom.
In Ankum there are three pizzeria's located: (La Grotta - Ristorante / Pizzeria Piccolo / Ristorante Lucchese. I have only eaten by Lucchese Ristorante, enjoy there an delicious pizza for an nice price :-)
In Ankum you have the possibility to shop for food and drinking, when you want to shop for clothing or something else than i advice you to go to Osnabrück.
When you come over by car to Germany and you want to visit some cities for example, Bremen or Osnabrück, you need a badge for these city's.

Fondest memory: Ankum is nice place to stay for about two or three days to enjoy the nature.
Where you can do activities such as: walking, hiking, tennnis, golf, horseriding and to see some special interesting historical places in the neighborhood.
