Summer Morning in Wendland by nepalgoods The climate in Lower Saxony is influenced by the Gulf Streem. That means mild summers and winters and a lot of rain all the year round. I love all seasons. I don't know, which is the best season in Lower Saxony. Winter is mainly mild and has not much snow. But when there is snow we have a lot of fun and joy from it. Spring comes with lots and lots of flowers. Summer brings more flowers and warm evenings, which I enjoy very much. Autumns has many colours. The leaves turn red and yellow. Autumn is just beautiful!!! I even love the rain. The earth smells in a very lovely way after rain has fallen. I love to walk in the grey misty afternoons of November. But I also love to hear the birds sing in April. Leave a Comment

Tools of reindeer hunters in Wendland by nepalgoods The landscape of Lower Saxony is formed by the glaciers of Ice Age . The glaciers left a lot of sand and stones. They carved the mountains to low hills. The remains of human beings living in Lower Saxony 100.000 years ago are mainly covered with huge layers of sand. But when we are lucky, we find their remains as in Wendland or Salzgitter. The tools and bones of them can be seen in the Landesmuseum in Hannover. Leave a Comment

by Leipzig Saxony was first mentioned in the second century AD as an area between the Elbe and Ems rivers including south Jutland. In the 9th century Saxony occupied nearly all the territory between the Elbe and Saale rivers on the east and the Rhine on the west; it bordered on Franconia and Thuringia in the south. Struggles between dukes of Saxony ended with division into numerous fiefs. One of them was the duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg. Ernest Augustus of Calenberg, a part of Brunswick-Lüneburg, was raised to the rank of elector in 1692 and his electorate became known as Hanover. The marriage of Ernest Augustus to Sophia, granddaughter of James I of England in 1714, brought the English throne to his son, Elector George Louis (George I of England). In 1807 Napoleon assigned part of Hanover to the kingdom of Westphalia under his brother Jérôme Bonaparte, the remainder being divided in 1810 between France and Westphalia. In 1815 the Congress of Vienna raised Hanover to a kingdom, with membership in the German Confederation. Twenty-tow years later Hanover was separated from the British crown. In 1866 George V, king of Hanover refused to support Prussia in the Austro-Prussian War and lost his kingdom as a consequence. In 1871 it became a German province and after World War II Lower Saxony was formed of the provinces of Hanover, Brunswick, Oldenburg, and Schaumburg-Lippe. Leave a Comment

by DanielF Lower Saxony consists mainly of a large plain covered with crops and heaths and drained by the lower courses of the rivers Aller, Weser, Ems and Elbe. A large part of the German North Sea Coast belongs to Lower Saxonny, including the Eastern Friesish Islands and their tidal area. However, Lower Saxonny is not completely flat, as there are also some scenic mountain areas in the South (The Harz Region), the highest point reaching almost 1.000 metres. Leave a Comment
