Flower covered building
I came across this very attractive building on my way into the city from the Hauptbahnhof. I took photos because it really was quite eyecatching. I am disappointed that I have been unable to identify it. Can someone help me out here please?

Stunning castle landscape.
Plesse Castle, or Plesse Burg, as it is known in german, dates back to the 11th century, when the castle belonged to the Bishop of Paderborn. In the 12th century, some local nobility acquired the castle, and their family name became known as “von Plesse”. Since 1660 the castle fell into ruin, but came back into popularity in the 19th century as a tourist and student attraction. The castle boasts a 23 metre tower, the “Kleine Turm”. It also has a large tower, the “Grossen Turm” of which the walls are 4 metres thick, and which affords a stunning view of the surrounding landscape. There is a restaurant serving food, coffee, and drinks, but this is closed on Mondays from March to December. Guided tours are available. A very pleasant place to spend a couple of hours away from Göttingen.

we were told that the figure on a fountain is the most kissed girl in the world because there is a custom to kiss the girl if you have just graduaded the university
anyway I haven't seen anyone to kiss it; to me it is a nice meeting place; and it seems this is the case not only to me.. there was so crowdy there and almost impossible to take a nice pic

Goettingen has a number of public pools in different areas of the city. One of them - an open air pool - is situated in the Kiessee area, in the southern part of town. This is is a sports and recreation area and features a lot of possibilities for leisure activities. Only 200 m from the entrance of the "Freibad am Brauweg" pool there is also a second, much more modern pool which claims to be a "bathing paradise" (Badeparadies). For most part it is roofed-over and hence is a good place to enjoy in winter times. But in summer.... the old pool at the Brauweg is my favorite. Find a lot more photos using the links provided.

Walk Around the Old Town!
Even though Göttingen's ramparts have been removed, their outline can still be seen, because a dam has been put in their place, and the dam surrounds the entire inner city. There's a gravel path on the top that's very popular with walkers and joggers. The wall path will take you to wonderful corners and places such as Göttingen's main theatre, the "Bismarck House" (into which Bismarck was banned into due to illegal duelling) and a wonderful mill now being used as a student dorm.
Pauliner Straße (Street) IMO is one of Goettingen's nicest streets being lined with beautiful half-timbered houses. The houses are not very ornamental, but still very, very nice and authentic. Some of them are actually student dorms... I think it's great to have a combination of these old traditional dwellings and young people living in them acquiring state of the art knowledge in their sciences.
Göttingen's Old Town Hall
Göttingen's town hall dates back from medieval times when the city was a member of the hanseatic league. It is now mainly used for representative purposes. The basement contains a famous traditional restaurant. Guided tours available, also in English language.
In December, there's a very nice and popular Christmas market at the old town hall.
St Johannis Kirche (church)
1300/1344 constructed gothic hall church. the south tower is 56.5 m high, the north tower 62 m. In the north tower live students in the old tower guard room.
time table: Apr. to Sept daily 11.00h to 12.00h
climb the tower Sat. 14.00h to 16.00h
the old townhall, built during the prime time of the city (13th to 16th century), also used as guild house of the traders. In front of the townhall on the marketplace you find the "Gänseliesel-Brunnen" (fountain)...a little statue, since 1901 on itsplace and the emblem of the city. It is called the most kissed girl ("the Gänseliesel") of the world, because of an old tradition in the university city Göttingen all fresh doctorated men have to kiss her. Unfortunately it is currently in restauration, because someone throwed some month ago a burning couch in the fountain and damaged the statue a lot.
