Every year in May the Spielbanken Marathon is a big event in Hannover. Beside the normal Marathon there are Inline-scaters, Kids-Marathon and a Marathon for people in wheel-chairs. I don't take part but I enjoy to watch the runners.

Once in a year, there is a small ice hockey team cup in the Preussag Arena here in Hannover.
The national teams of Canada, Switzerland, USA and Germany are taking part. Sounds fantastic, but usually it's not the "real" national teams that are showing up, the most important players are missing usually.
I have been there twice now, and I'm not too excited. Well, I prefer to freeze at the good old Pferdeturm stadium instead of sitting in a warm hall....maybe it's the flair that is missing at this cup!!!
The actors on the ice are giving their best though!
Equipment: Don't bring your winterjacket, it always heated well inside....

Hannover was - along with Cologne and Nuremberg - host of the Ice hockey world championships at the moment. The finals were held here on Sunday 13 May 2001 and Czech Republic won in an exciting match against Finland.
I watched USA playing Canada in the quarter finals. It was exciting and - even though I supported Canada and the US won - a lot of fun!!!

World cup 2006 is held in 12 cities in Germany. Hannover is one of them.
The lion (GoLeo) is the lucky symbol this time. The big figure stood in the fair. Oh soooo cute!!!

The Night of Hannover is a big biking event in August. The bikers go around the city of Hannover . It is a lot of fun and beer.

It's sooooo easy to lose a lot of money but it's a great place to go to on a sunday afternoon. Place some bets, enjoy the sound of the horses passing by quickly and watch people. Great fun!
