Just over the road from the Neues Rathaus a large man made, I think, lake. Good place for a walk along the shore or maybe all the way around if you've time and energy to spare. A pleasant hour or two for us.
Hannover has been a “lake town” for 70 years now. The Maschsee is an artificial lake in the middle of the city (1934-1936), not only attracts of water sports, also invites people to stroll (6 kms) cycle or jog around its banks.
In the south of the lake is a bath (beach), some restaurants belong the banks, and at one time of the year a great festival.
Back you should stroll belong the river Leine, really a nice walk with beautiful nature.
Hannover by boat. Enjoy your round trip of the lake or an illuminated evening cruise (including a dinner) in one of the white Maschsee-fleet ships at Rudolf-von-Bennigsen-Ufer (landing place at the "Torchbearer" (Fackeltraeger) opposite the Sprengel Museum). Weather permitting, the cruises can be enjoyed between April and October. More information can be obtained at "Fahr mit-Üstra Reisen GmbH" travel agency, (address on the right).
Right behind the new city hall, there is the lake Maschsee. The Maschsee is an artificial lake, which was built between 1934 and 1936. The lake is in the middle of the city of Hannover and truly an attraction for tourists and people who live in Hannover. You can go sailing on the lake, and go inline skating, cycling or strolling around the lake. Every summer, the huge Maschsee festival attracts more than one million visitors.
The Maschsee Lake draws crowds all the year round. There are openair parties in summer, and in winter festivities on the ice with mulled wine and punch. The Maschsee Lake Festival in August has developed into a particular highlight: a gigantic party-like get-together with concerts, performance art and delicious culinary treats, it may draw as many as 250,000 visitors from near and far on a single weekend. This festival comes round every summer, at a time when the people of Hannover have still barely recovered from the nine days of the biggest Marksmen’s Fair in the world and from the Old Town Street Festival.

The Masch Park, also called "Park of the Twin Towns", is located between the New Town Hall and Lake Maschsee. It is part of a large green area that offers excellent opportunities for recreation and leisure activities in the Southern City. The park was designed at the end of the last century by the Municipal Garden Director Julius Trip, one of the leading garden artists of his time. The walk ways around the Maschteich "a pond inside the Park" invite to leisurely strolls during lunch breaks and, of course, at any other time of the day and let you enjoy the pleasant "green spot" just behind the Town Hall.
Lake Maschsee, affectionately called the "blue eye" of Hanover, is an artificial lake stretching over 2,4 kilometres in length. It is a great attraction for anyone doing sports for leisure and recreation. At, on and around picturesque Lake Maschsee it is teeming with inline skaters, joggers, cyclists and water-sport enthusiasts of all kinds. And having finished the training programme, there are many inviting places to make up for all the calories lost in the course of heavy exercise.
The Maschsee is an artificial lake (But I won't tell ya when it was built ;-) in the city centre. It's really nice there when the weather is fine and you can get yourself a boat and row, sail or paddle across it. And it's great for a walk or to go inline skating as well.
an artifically created lake. I didn't see anyone to bathe.. and why? See the pictures.. What for fishes live there. The guy who took us to the lake called them 'monsters'.
"Kroepke" is a big clock in Downtown of Hannover. It is near the Centralstation and a important meeting place for the people. I realized that a lot of people have there meeting point there;)
This lake is the favourite recreation area in town. On sunny days thousands are having a walk, or a boat trip. It´s also the place for inline skating and jogging!!!
