Each year from late November till Christmas Eve there's a Christmas Market (Nordhorner Weihnachtsmarkt) in the main streets of the old city, Hauptstrasse, Zur Alten Bleiche and Zur Bleiche streets. As in many German citiess wooden shop houses are places in these streets selling Christmas arts & craft and food & drinks (Glühwein for the occasion).
this church was once a missonary church of Saint Ludger, then consecreted in the year 1445. In the year 1544 the Grafschaft Bentheim (name of the region) changed to the lutheran confession, so this church too. In the year 1588 the dukes of Bentheim changed again to the reformed (calvinist) confession and the clergy of this church changed also again..
once the city of Nordhorn was placed on an island surrounded by the river Vechte. Of course the twon is now much bigger and only a smaller part is placed on the island. Around this centrum you can go by "Tretboot", a pedal boat. Some houses next to the river have their little paddle boats there as well, it looks almost like Amsterdam.
