St Andreasberg borders the Harz National Park which is full of rare birds, lynx and other animals and with visitors centres at Torfhaus (see page) and other places. With heights up to 927 metres, there is a very varied flora and fauna and in a mystical forest landscape that will make you want to disappear into it :-)
This photo is from the "Eagle Cliff" outside town. The weather was misty and just added to the feeling of magic. Popular wildlife place although the cliff itself is very close to the main road.

There are two ski centres here with Matthias-Schmidt-Berg with snow cannons and smaller Sonnenberg still with a decent height (800metres) to allow good conditions throughout winter. There are several lifts to both and you can rent skis but also try luge and other tobogganing sports :-)
