Muenden is located where the rivers Werra and Fulda converge to form the Weser. The old town is perfectly preserved, including more than 700 original half-timbered houses and a Weserrenaissance town hall.

Hameln is a beautiful classic small German town. It has been too long since the last time I visited there so I cannot give any fresh tips, but the nature, the people, especially the girls & the ice cream was great :-)

  • Goslar is a UNESCO World Heritage site and truly amazing!

Goslar has more than 1000 beautiful half-timbered houses from the 15th to the 18th centuries and can best be explored
    on foot.

The churches of Goslar provide a look into the architectural history of the area. Many of the oldest - five of them had already been built by 1200 - have been expanded and altered from their original Romanesque style to their current Gothic appearance.

  • Directions: Access is via the A7 Autobahn north and south; exit at either Seesen or Rýden. There is a train connection as well, it takes about 1 1/2 hours to get to Goslar from Hannover.

Göttingen is situated in the southern part of Lower Saxony halfway between Cologne and Berlin. The presence of the university gives the centre an international flair.

  • Göttingen is not too far away from Einbeck and so I know it fairly well from shopping trips and visiting friends.

In the center of Göttingen, you can wander down narrow streets, looking at half-timbered houses. Many of the facades are carved and painted, and some bear marble plaques noting the famous people who lived inside, such as the more than 40 Nobel Prize winners who temporarily made their home here.

The Gänseliesel well is THE central spot of Göttingen and always a meeting point for the students.

  • Hannover is the capital of Niedersachsen. It has been heavily destroyed during WW II and definitely not been rebuilt in a very "artistic" way.....

Still there are some wonderful places in Hannover - and especially if you have friends there who can show you around .....

Give it a try and you will like it!!!! My favourite spots were always the Zoo and Herrenhauser Gardens....

For more information please have a look at nepalgood's Hannover page!

  • Lüneburg is an old Hanseatic Town, which got rich because of its salt deposits. It has beautiful old houses and a lovely atmosphere.

When I visited, I was so surprised at the beauty of this medieval city - don't miss it! From what I heard, the Christmas market there must be VERY nice!

Lüneburg is also the ideal starting point for excursions into the Lüneburg Heath, which is especially beautiful in late summer, when the heather is in bloom.

  • Directions: The Lüneburg Bahnhof lies on two major rail lines, the Hamburg-Hannover line and the Lüneburg-Lübeck-Kiel-Flensburg line, with frequent connections

  • Moin, Moin ..is the way people greet each other in East Frisia.

East Frisia is a very flat country and is a little bit similar to the neighboring Netherlands. So you can find windmills here, dikes, the North Sea and some wild East Friesian islands - this part of the country really is a wonderful spot for outdoor people!
