This is the area that we used to skiing to, but I also remember long hikes during summer time and fascinating caves to discover. Plus there are wonderful towns and castles there - just wonderful! Just to visit the Harz mountains would make a wonderful vacation! Leave a Comment

Bad Gandersheim by tini58de Bad Gandersheim's origins can be traced back to the 9th Century, when it was an important administrative center. The Abbey is a wonderful example of Romanesque style architecture. Today there are open air festivals and concerts in the grounds of the cathedral - what a spectacular surrounding! Leave a Comment

Tidexer Straße by tini58de Einbeck is the place of my childhood - I grew up here in this beautiful small medieval town, went to school here, graduated and came back regularly to visit my parents. It is for these good memories, but also for the truly wonderful architecture, that I put it as the number one must see activity for Lower Saxony. For more information, please have a look at my Einbeck page. Leave a Comment

Knochenhaueramtshaus by DanielF Hildesheim is a town in Lower Saxony of 106 inhabitants. It is probably not the most charming place in Germany as a whole, but it has a good collection of interesting sites, like the early Romanesque Saint Michael Church, included in the list of UNESCO world heritage, and the Market Place, where a few years ago they have completed the reconstruction of the Knochenhaueramtshaus (pictured), one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in Germany. Its complicated German name is due to the fact that it used to host the guild of the city's butchers. Leave a Comment
