Göttingen

by tini58de

Göttingen is not too far away from Einbeck and so I know it fairly well from shopping trips and visiting friends. In the center of Göttingen, you can wander down narrow streets, looking at half-timbered houses. Many of the facades are carved and painted, and some bear marble plaques noting the famous people who lived inside, such as the more than 40 Nobel Prize winners who temporarily made their home here. The Gänseliesel well is THE central spot of Göttingen and always a meeting point for the students.

Osnabridge

by DanielF

Osnabrück is the third city in the Bundsland and still famous because the peace negociations for the Treaty of Wesphalia, which put an end to the War of the Thirty Years, took place here. Although it was in nearby Muenster that the Treaty was signed. It is probably not the most atmospheric place in Lower Saxony, but worth a visit when in the area.

Old Windmill

by Kushelkitten

An old windmill built in 1877 in the little village of Sprengle is a nice place to stop if you are on your way to Soltau from Hamburg. One can go inside and take a look at what went on in the mill. Outside is a grinding stone under a covered shed. Small playground for the children.

Heidepark Soltau

by Kushelkitten

A large Amusement park located in the beautiful Lüneburger Heide. Great rollercoasters such as Colosus the highest and steepest wooden rollercoaster in the world; Limit, an inverted looping coaster; the Swiss Bob ride, which is a bobslead coaster and many more. They have rides for the with a faint heart such as the canal ride and mountain rafts. For little kids there is the Kids World sponsored by Nivea. If you need a break from the excitement check out some of the shows such as the sealions and parrots.Heidepark Soltau also holds an annual pole sitting contest so if you are in the area and can stay for awhile join in the fun.

Weserbergland

by nepalgoods

In the west of Lower Saxony are the Weser Mountains, a low range of mountains along the River Weser. Weserbergland has a nice foresty landscape. Very famous is Hameln on Weser river with its fairy tale of the Pied Piper. The most wonderful timbered houses you'll find in Hannoversch Münden, a lovely little town at the confluence of Fulda and Werra Rivers, which from here on are called Weser.Weserbergland is an area for recreation and wellness holidays. One of the nice Spas is Bad Pyrmont.

Tip Photo
Goslar

by DanielF

Goslar (Lower Saxony) is one of the most important and beautiful towns in the Harz region, situated in the border between the "two Germanies". Not in vain, Goslar is one of the German cities included in the UNESCO world heritage list.

59. Hildesheim

by DanielF

Hildesheim is a town in Lower Saxony of 106 inhabitants. It is probably not the most charming place in Germany as a whole, but it has a good collection of interesting sites, like the early Romanesque Saint Michael Church, included in the list of UNESCO world heritage, and the Market Place, where a few years ago they have completed the reconstruction of the Knochenhaueramtshaus (pictured), one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in Germany. Its complicated German name is due to the fact that it used to host the guild of the city's butchers.

Hameln
