Bad Münstereifel is a medium sized medieval town in the Eifel region of Germany and is famous for it’s 15th century city fortifications.

They originally circumscribed the entire town in the diddle ages times but now only some sections still remain standing .

You can walk amongst these solid fortifications and get a great view of Bad Münstereifel from the top of this ancient wall.

I lived in this town for 3 weeks, ate at several cafes, visited all the shops. What a wonderful little town. Quiet and cozy would best describe it.

    Burgrestaurant: Good food, great views

The food is very good considering the low prices and the phantastic view from the terrace.

Favorite Dish: When I was there summer 2004, I ordered a Mozarella salade. I've never had so much Mozarella in one salad and it tasted excellent. It was served with German bread with various kinds of surprising home-made mustards. I think it was only something like EUR 4,80. The mustards are for sale in the Burg shop.

    Circular hike

by Veghel Written Sep 25, 2005

I started in Bad Münstereifel and walked about 4 km south to Eicherscheid, parallel to the main road. From Eicherscheid, I walked 1.5 to 2 km southeast and then headed east and uphill in the Bodenbachtal. In the Bodenbachtal, there are several small artificial lakes where you can buy trouts (German: Forelle). From there the itineary is diffucult to follow without a good map, so make sure you have one! The easy footpaths run through dense woods. After about 3 km, the route goes back northwest again, towards Bad Münstereifel's suburb Rodert. From Rodert, the tour goes steep downhill to Bad Münstereifel over a quiet tarmac road.
Please note that there are no signs that mark the entire hike, I just selected the route by myself.

Equipment: A bar or restaurant is never more than 4 km away, but it is recommended to bring something to drink and eat. Good walking shoes are recommended, but considering the condition of the roads tennis shoes (or similar) would do.
