Bonn is a university city, and the students of Bonn University make up a tenth of the population. Founded in 1818, the university is one of the most esteemed in the world. It has produced such luminaries as the current Vatican incumbent, Pope Benedict XVI, Karl Marx, Friedrich Nietzsche and seven Nobel Laureates.
The main part of the university is housed in a stunning and enormous neo-Classical building right in the center of Bonn. It backs onto some of the best parkland in the city, where you'll find numerous students playing sports, taking a picnic or just contemplating the arts.
In the old castle there is the Friedrich-Wilhelm-University since 1818 y. It was founded by the Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm. This is the main building of the University. The university uses more than 350 buildings scattered all over the Bonn area. In front of it there is a big park.

founded almost 200 years ago this large university is considered to be one of Europes most important establishments in higher learning and is home to 30,000 students with many international students.
There is a lovely park in front of the main building which we strolled through. The building is quite striking & at night it makes a good photo opportunity being all lit up

Located right in the city is the University of Bonn which a lot of people attend. There is a large field where everyone gathers and just hang out. We went there a couple times and had some good ol' times there...haha.

Originally a castle, this very fine building has been housing Bonn's university since 1818. More important for the tourist is the wonderful park in front of it.
The Bonn university is in beautiful historic building. It was told to me that it was once a palace of some prince. It is worth visiting this interestinng building and meet the students there.
