They offer a big German menu so that you can taste real German food! And they also serve the local brew - Kolsch. It was really busy when we were here, with lots of staff rushing all over the place! Leave a Comment

Actualy I've noticed this restaurant as soon as I get to my hotel, (because it is next door), but was littlebit suspicious for the name. There are many restaurants in Germany, held by people from ex-Yugoslavia, but in some of them Croats are not welcome if held by Serbs and vice versa. It is not something that started in 1991, I still remember unpleasant exeprience I had in "Balkan" restaurant in Frankfurt, back in 1980. Anyhow, after long morning strolling around the city I was pretty much hungry and have decided to take my chance. In some way I am always able to recognize my compatriots if meeting them abroad, therefore I addressed to the weiter in Croatian, which he understood perfectly.
Beans broth with smoked-ham or chilly sausage is traditional Croatian dish which I like very much. If made in a proper way, it proofs the good quality ot the specific restaurant and one certainly wouldn't be disappointed with other dishes. I had also two medium beers and coffee and all cost me less then 15,00 Euros. Oh yes, the beans broth was very tasty. This old meidevil inn has been on the Rhine for 700 yrs, according to the proprietors. It's a warm wood rafter interior, with a barmaid dressed in meidevil garb. Everyone is amazingly friendly, and the food is traditional, heavy meidevil fare: pork knuckle, homemade bratwurst, sauerkraut... The rice pudding and apple steudel are wonderful as well. Make sure to have the Kolsch, the local beer. The menu has the history of the place and fun anecdotes also.

This was a lovely corner on which to sit and watch the world go by accompanied by an accordian player!
I had pistachio and chocolate icecream with extra cream for 2.70 Euro - Delicious! The staff did seem a little harassed as it was soo busy and one had trouble understanding my friend's german but any misunderstandings were quickly rectified. Mmmmm, as well as sandwiches and pretzels, you can step into this bakery and slobber over the array of cakes and pastries. Be sure to wipe down the glass cases when you're done drooling. We came here for Palm Sunday breakfast and had two cappucinos and chocolate croissants for 5.30 euro. As we dipped the buttery pastry in the milk foam, the Dom's bells rang and a parade of parishioners waving palm fronds marched past to the tune of a brass band. Sacrilicious!
The cakes are divine, with chocolate, apples, almonds, cream and all other sorts of delicious ingredients. Savoury specialities, like sandwiches and chewy pretzels, can be bought straight off the street. Elsewhere in Koln you'll find street vendors and hole in the wall places selling bratwurst, giant pretzels and other snack food. Due to a bad weather conditions in Cologne, I've broke my rules and first evening had diner in the hotel restaurant. Besides, the guy told me the restaurant offers good Italian cuisine. Btw, the weiter was Italian and I've followed his advice but then he went off before I've finished my dinner. The next day, after my lamentation, he was smaller then the mouse.
It was 10:00PM when I entered in the empty restaurant (see the picture), and that should be always a good sign for alert. On the other hand, it was snowing outside and I wasn't in mooth to get out. Anyhow, I ordered grilled medallions with moushrooms and potatoes. The meat was as hard as the sole of my shoe. Something bad as that I haven't eat for ages. Oh yes, I paid 23,00 Euros! There's a little Imbiss selling Bockwurst and Bratwurst and Pommes just across the bridge from the Sport and Chocolate museums. They are served with or without onions and they will squirt ketchup on if you don't ask for it without. They will also squirt some whiteish sauce (which isn't mustard) unless you tell them you don't want it. The staff are very tolerant of tourists who ask for *hotdogs*. They don't serve drinks here. When you sit down with your food a waiter will come over and take your drinks order. You pay for the drinks when he brings them.
Being a vegetarian I only had chips. Leave a Comment Theme: German/AustrianPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Am LeystapelDirections: Opposite the museums

One of Cologne's finest restaurants. The Rheinterrassen are located at the riverfront. The view to the other side of the river, the old town and the cathedral is beautiful. Go there for dinner and watch the sun set behind the city's skyline. Beautiful!! But make a reservation. Otherwise you might end up without a table. During summertime I would recommend to get a table on the terrace and not inside the restaurant.
The food is gorgeous! It is one of the restaurants where the plates are so well decorated and prepared that you almost feel bad to take pieces out of it and eat them. Like in lots of good restaurants the meals are not very large but tasty. But be sure, you won't leave hungry. Just take the "Apple-Cherry Noodles with Vanilla Sauce" for dessert. Sounds strange, but it is a great combination - and almost as much as a regular meal. The locals eat here so it has to be good. The waiter didn't speak english so that had to be even better. Beer and Bier are so similar that the waiter and I understood each other, the best. We had a great experience at this brauhaus. The food was delicious. I had viener-schnitzel but tried my mom's pork shank, also delicious. A few beers to wash it all down.
Viener-schnitzel. Cooked to golden perfection Pork shank - delicious roasted goodness. Beer - Whatever it was it was good. Cologne serves mostly pale ales unlike those heavier, yeastier bavarian beers Leave a Comment Theme: German/AustrianPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Dom SquareDirections: Dom Square

When in Rome act like the Romans and when in Cologne, drink a Kölsch, the local beer.Although I'm not a beer drinker usually - I prefer wine - I liked the beer here. The brewerey house Frueh is touristy, but why not? After all we were tourists. And the beer is good. Unlike in other places, you don't have to tell the waiters when you want another beer, you get this automatically as soon as your glass is almost empty. You have to tell them when you don't want another beer. Leave a Comment
