Crucial equipment for the FC is Hennes, a goat! I heard that he (or better: his predecessors) has been poisened a couple of times by supporters of other teams - to bring the FC some bad luck.

One of the big Rhine Cruisers near the chocolate museum had its gym facing landside. When we were going up to the museum we saw a woman in there on a cycling machine, and she looked virtually dead. She was giving slow, laconic pedals, and had this really weary expression - not just on her face, but her whole body screamed "get me out of here".
When we returned over 1 hour later, she was still there, looking exactly the same. We started to suspect it was some punishment, or that she was actually a galley slave and had to do this to provide the power for the ship or something.
I know we shouldn't laugh, but oh how we did!

Disappointing small crowd of around 10,000, ticket prices are very reasonable and include travel on local public transport - buy in advance and use it all day!

The old home of 1. FC Köln.
They were quite literally knocking down this old stadium at the time of our visit. we should have been wearing hard hats at least as we sneaked in an open door.
It was built in 1923 with a recent capacity of 42,000.

The home of Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
The ground is situated in a little town called Leverkusen only 25 minutes away by train from Cologne.
It was originally built in 1932, now fully rebuilt with a capacity of 22,500.
