St.Pantaleon Church

This is a really scenic church, set in a huge green area with a convent located just behind it on the hill. This area is quite suburban, but at the same time in Germany this is a very famous church, because in the crypt here are the graves of archbishop Bruno and Emperor Otto's wife - Theophanu.

This church fascinated me, I think because it was just so beautiful and set in such natural surroundings...there were golden leaves fallen everywhere and the fact that the nuns were just wandering around with their everyday business was really atmospheric.

Kapella St. Columba

Here is an example of the damages from World War II and the restoration that has taken place. Much of the original outer wall has been damaged and knocked down. Just behind the damaged area you can the new restored part of Kapelle St. Columba. Also in the background you can see the spires of the Cologne Cathedral towering in the background. Its hard to take a picture in Cologne and not have the Cathedral somewhere in the short. Its presence can be felt all over the city.

St. Andreas

Once again you can see the ancient blending in the modern world. Here is St. Andreas Cathedral amoung the busy street of the modern day Cologne.

St. Andeas was built in the 11th century. It was originally St. Matthews. It remains today as it was in the first quarter of the 13th century. It has been a Dominican church since 1947.

St. Kunibert

Much of day found us walking this ancient city and finding different churches and cathedrals. Here is St. Kunibert. Once more you can the contrast of the ancient and the modern. And also once again you can see the towering Spires of the Cologne Cathedral in the background.

Visit at least some of the Romanesque churches, which date back to the beginning of the 2nd millenium. Like everything else in Koln (Cologne), these churches were leveled during World War II. They have been reconstructed from old floor plans and pictures -- fascinating and quite beautiful.

it is one of the important churches of Cologne. It is situated in Altstadt area just about on the bank of river Rhine. It is easily visible as one walks down the Alstadt area towards to river.

Another fascinating Romanesque church, rebuilt after WWII devastation, on the north side of the city center. Austere interior, a beautiful worship space, interest bronze relief on the doors.
