Open from April to October each year - the service begins at 10.00 and continues to 18.00 each evening. It was an excellent experience and although a little windy, the service was comfortable and enjoyable.

A great opportunity to take photographs when above the Rhine.

Buy a return ticket; and iof you have used the tourist train, their ticket gets you a discount too.

    One of the cable cars

The best way to experience Cologne, even better than the river boats, is the cable car, known as the Seilbahn. The view of the city are spectacular. The first car takes you over the Rhine (heading west to east). The second leg of the journey uses a smaller cable car to take you to the botanical gardens. It's a beautiful trip.

    Ride the cable car

This cable car runs across the river from near to the zoo and gardens. Unfortunately it was not open whilst we were there (she says thankfully........... scared). But I should imagine the sights are great from up above the Rhine across to the Dom and the rest of the city.

Cable Car to the Rhine Park

taken from Cable Car looking back to Zoo area

Unless you have a very bad fear of heights, then the cable car ride from the Zoo area across the Rhine to the Park is well worth the €4.50. You can either walk along the river under the railway bridge to the Zoo area, or get the U Bahn to Zoo (Iines 17,18,19 from Dom or Neumarkt etc) then just a few minutes walk to the Cable Car Station. From the Rhine park on the other side of the river are nice quiet walks and good views back across the river. The views from the cable car of the Dom and Cologne are very good.

    Seilbahn

The first cable car in Europe that crossed a river. You have a great view over the city of Cologne, beautiful panorama's can be seen. Its very easy to use when you visit the zoo you can go to the other side of the rhine to have a walk in the parks.

Rhine Cable Car....when I was back on safe ground!

For any of you that know me, you will know that I am terrified of height! Before visiting Cologne I read about this cablecar that crosses the Rhine and saw it as a challenge! Then I found out that it was "supposedly" only open from March through till October, how horrified was I when we got there and realised that is was still open!! My husband runs to find out how much it is....only 3.70euro each, next thing I am being hauled into this small car, and carried high up in the sky all by a piece of cable!! The views are absolutley stunning...but I was completely feared for my life!

The riverbanks at Kln with touringboats

South of centre the river Rhine is crossed by cabins. Here you have a breathtaking view over Köln and the river and can make perfect fotographs of the city. A boattour over this most important waterway of Europe will also show you another side of Köln.
