One can also cross the Rhine River by car ferry from the Eastern Rhine town of Urdenbach to the Western side town of Zons. The ferry operates as follows:
Summer Time
Monday to Friday – 6:15 – 21:00
Saturday – 8:30 – 21:00
Sunday – 9:00 – 21:00
Winter Time
Monday to Friday – 6:15 – 20:00
Saturday – 8:30 – 20:00
Sunday – 9:00 – 20:00

I would suggest to take a boat from Düsseldorf. We took the boat from Düsseldorf Benrath (Schlossufer) which brings you over to the next corner of the Rhine in a half hour. It costs you 4,50 € for the round trip.

To reach Zons one travels along the Highway Number 57 from either Dusseldorf or Cologne. The exit Zons is sign posted and there is ample parking available right next to the Northern town gate.

There is also a car ferry crossing the Rhine between Benrath and Zons....
This pic could also have been taken in the seventies as there is only an old VW Beetle on the ferry, but it´s 2003!!!!

Zons is a little town near Dormagen and it´s the perfect spot for a sunny sunday afternoon.... The old city walls and the old houses are in a pretty good shape, and if there weren´t so many visitors...
