We had a couple of visits to this fine establishment on our visit to Dortmund.
The Ice Cream Sundaes were excellent and made a nice dessert after the traditional German fare served at the restaurants of Alter Markt.

I think this is not the best restaurant in Dortmund, nor the cheaper, but it's different.
You may sit and have your drink or meal, while the city is passing before you, in a constant and gentle rotation.

On the market square you also find another Der Thueringer restaurant namely the Gaudi Alm. Here local events take place.
We only had drinks one day on the outdoor seating area.
Favorite Dish: I had an ice coffee which is not coffee flavoured ice cream like in Switzerland but cold iced coffee.

Der Thueringer is my favourite fast food stop in Dortmund. Here I often eat a Thueringer Bratwurst in a bun. You can also eat Currywurst and french fries etc.
Round the corner there is a proper restaurant also called "Der Thueringer" but this fast food place by the same name (and owner) is easily recognisable because it has an open window where you can buy your bratwurst without entering the shop. In the warm season there are a few tables outdoor but there is also some indoor seating.
Favorite Dish: The Thueringer Bratwurst, which is much longer than the bun.

The Galeria Kaufhof is a department store located on the big pedestrianised shopping street. On the top level you will find a large self-service restaurant called Dinea. In one corner of the restaurant there are big windows from where you have a view on the shopping street.
This is an ideal place to come also with kids for a drink or meal.
Favorite Dish: I had a slice of rasperry cake whereas my friend had a proper meal.

On a shopping trip we checked out the new Maximilian, another café on market square. In summer they have outdoor seating. The café has an appealing and pleasant interior. It serves a variety of teas, coffees, soft drinks, juices, cocktails, wine etc. For food there are breakfasts, burgers, pastas etc.
When we visited we only had a drink.

We came here in November 2008 to take a bread from shopping. Even at that time of the year there was still outdoor seating with heating elements, but we prefered to sit inside.
I had an Earl Grey tea which cost Euro 1.90 and an apple strudel with ice cream and whipped cream for Euro 4.80.
The café serves various soups and other dishes like pasta etc. There is a free toilet downstairs. Service was attentive. I thought that it was a very pleasant café.

You will find branches of the Nordsee fish fast food restaurants all over Germany. Here in Dortmund there is one in the long shopping street. We had a small fish and chips snack there.
Favorite Dish: I ate a small portion of fish and chips for Euro 2.99.

When you enter this self-service restaurant you receive a plastic card. With this you go and get your food and drinks which get charged to the card at the different counters. When you leave the restaurant you pay what got charged to the card. Don’t loose it or you will have to pay a very expensive set fee.
The restaurant is rather stylish and I really liked the interior decoration. There is a bar, a lounge area, lots of normal and lots of high tables. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible but the toilets are downstairs. In the warm season there are also tables outside.
You come here to eat to eat pasta which comes in all different shapes with different sauces and they also have a variety of salads.
You can eat here daily between 11 am and 11 pm.
Favorite Dish: I opted for a Pasta Carbonara which had to much onion for my taste for Euro 6.50 (Sept. 07).
